    Job Title: Principal Forging Design Engineer

     

    Department: 6100 - Engineering

    Summary

    The principal forging design Engineer plays a critical role in our manufacture process of specialty customer forgings through development of forging process, tooling and dies by applying industry best practices and computer aid simulations. This position is responsible for developing, analyzing, and implementing forging process to manufacture high quality forging products, optimizing current forging practice to improve quality, efficiency and exceeding customer expectations. It requires extensive understanding of metallurgical/mechanical engineering principles, forging best practices, strong problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude, it also requires collaboration across multiple teams to ensure continuous improvement and compliance to customer specifications and industry standards.

    Responsibilities

    + Review customer specifications and industry standards to incorporation all customer requirements into the manufacture process and ensure compliance of final products.

    + Work with sales to develop forging process, tooling/dies, drawings for quoting documentation submittal.

    + Collaborating with the simulation Engineers to validate the capability and sensitivity of the designed forging processes.

    + Evaluate and optimize current manufacture process to increase efficiency, reduce cost and improve quality and productivity.

    + Write rework instructions for production test failures and submit deviation requests to customers if required.

    + Develop detail metallurgical instructions which include chemistry, heat treat process, mechanical testing and non-destructive testing based on customer's purchasing orders and specifications.

    + Conduct investigations and perform root cause analysis on procedure related issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

    + Provide technical support to production teams for troubleshooting equipment and process issues.

    + Lead manufacturing projects, including new product introductions, tooling design, and equipment upgrades.

    + Train production staff and engineers on new process and forging techniques.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree in metallurgical or mechanical engineering with 10 years related experience.

    + Specialized knowledge in metallurgical manufacturing, melting, forging and heat treat processes for carbon steels, stainless steels, nickel alloys and Titanium alloys.

    + Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and manufacturing tools.

    + Understanding of metallurgical and mechanical engineering principles.

    + Familiarity with NDT methods of inspection (e.g., ultrasonic, penetrant inspection).

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    + Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

    + Knowledge of ERP systems is a plus.
