    In this role, the Power Electronica Manufacturing Engineer will work with the manufacturing engineering team, product development and suppliers, to define robust laser welding parameters and apply them in production environments. Process development will be accomplished through a pilot lab environment with production intent equipment. The individual will be expected to work efficiently on independent projects as well as with teams. Successful candidates will have a proven record of working with cross functional teams in the development and implementation of high-volume manufacturing systems. The individual will be expected to navigate and drive change in a complex internal environment and bring new perspectives to the task of producing high quality welded joints.

    What you'll do…

    + Support the specification, procurement, build, installation and launch of Powertrain Production equipment related to the manufacturing of powertrain power electronics components.

    + Lead simultaneous engineering and process development for laser welded joints for copper elements, and potentially aluminum joints as well.

    + Lead the study and evaluation of different color lasers and their advantages/disadvantages for inverter applications.

    + Lead the efforts to understand capabilities of in-process laser monitoring and what systems are available in the market today.

    + Pursue knowledge of new technologies and advancements in the field of lasers, optics, process monitoring and applications.

    + Evaluate innovative and disruptive emerging processes and material technologies for potential application to Ford products.

    + Support Product Engineering in the selection and specification of component materials and test procedures.

    + Support Purchasing with the issuance of prototype tooling orders, following the Ford Procurement Management Process, as required.

    + Troubleshoot production issues impacting FTT and warranty, determine corrective actions to the part, assembly processes and/or test equipment.

    Minimum Requirements:

    + BSc, Welding Engineering Technology

    + 5+ years prior experience with laser welding processes and equipment operation.

    + 5+ years prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

    Preferred Requirements:

    + Strong communication skills, both written and oral; ability to present, persuade, and collaborate at all levels of the organization.

    + Working level knowledge of fixture design principles, stackups, print reading and GD&T.

    + Knowledge of copper and aluminum alloys used in electrical component designs.

    + Experience performing manufacturing feasibility assessments.

    + Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    + Highly motivated self-starter capable of driving change and influencing engineering decisions, with or without authority.

    + Proven track record of specifying, procuring, and installation of high-volume manufacturing equipment.

    This position is salary grade 7.
