    Job Description: Pharmacy Technician Supervisor

    Position Overview:

    The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy technician team, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical services. This role requires in-depth knowledge of pharmacy operations, regulations, and best practices. The supervisor will ensure that pharmacy technicians adhere to safety protocols, perform their duties efficiently, and provide excellent customer service while supporting pharmacists in their daily tasks.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + **Team Supervision and Leadership:**

    + Supervise and manage the pharmacy technician team, including assigning tasks, setting schedules, and ensuring adequate staffing levels.

    + Work to coordinate daily activities of the pharmacy technicians.

    + Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance issues or concerns. Initiates disciplinary and/or corrective action in conjunction with the Director.

    + Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, encouraging teamwork and professional development.

    + Assist with recruitment of pharmacy technician staff and all on-boarding tasks.

    + Establish and maintain effective communication mechanisms within the department to ensure information is communicated to and between all departmental and hospital staff.

    + **Training and Development:**

    + Train new pharmacy technicians and provide ongoing training to ensure the team remains up-to-date with industry standards, technologies, and regulations.

    + Organize continuing education programs and workshops to enhance the skill set of pharmacy technicians.

    + Assist with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.

    + Recognize employee potential and proficiency and facilitates personal and professional growth.

    + **Pharmacy Operations Management:**

    + Oversee the preparation, dispensing, and storage of medications, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

    + Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the pharmacy manager to ensure adequate stock, placing orders for medications and supplies as needed.

    + Assist in the management of the pharmacy’s workflow, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in the preparation and dispensing process.

    + **Quality Control and Safety Compliance:**

    + Ensure that pharmacy technicians follow established procedures for medication preparation, labeling, and dispensing.

    + Conduct regular audits of pharmacy operations to ensure compliance with safety standards.

    + Report and investigate medication errors or discrepancies, taking corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

    + Ensure department compliance with all regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Health, PA State Board of Pharmacy, FDA, DEA, USP, and OSHA.

    + **Customer Service:**

    + Provide excellent customer service by addressing questions related to prescriptions, medications, and pharmacy services.

    + Serve as a liaison between pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to ensure patient needs are met effectively.

    + **Administrative Duties:**

    + Maintain accurate records of medication dispensing and pharmacy activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.

    + Prepare reports for management regarding staffing levels, operational efficiency, inventory, and compliance.

    * Ensure appropriate staffing so that pharmacy department continually provides optimum pharmaceutical care; adjusts staffing schedule as necessary.

    + **Professional Development:**

    + Remain abreast of developments in the field through continuing education, professional literature, participation in professional organizations, and communication with peers in other organizations and on staff.

    + Remain abreast of developments in the changing environment of healthcare regarding pharmaceutical services.

     

    Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required. 5 years of experience, 2 of which should be in a leadership capacity.

     

    Analytical/problem solving ability necessary to participate in the development of department procedures and goals. Participate in the analyses of operational problem and proposals and direct inventory control. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, communicate with vendors, and cooperate with the nursing and medical staffs. Supervisory skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the activities of both professional and non-professional employees. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner to manage multiple projects. Personal computer skills.

    Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required
