    Job Description Summary

    The Advanced Lead Engineer within our Advanced measurement technologies team will be responsible for designing and deploying novel mechanical integration applications using IR camera thermography for GE’s future of flight tests. You will be working hands-on in a collaborative team to leverage your optical design expertise and your mechanical/thermal skills to integrate IR camera systems into next-generation engines. You will be working closely with engineers, interns and laboratory personnel to ensure on-time customer delivery of projects. You will also lead the creation and execution of roadmaps and design practices for IR technology maturation as you help to develop the future of engine and component testing.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    + Execute the optical, mechanical, thermal and flow design, analysis, and evaluation of infra-red (IR) camera system for Aerospace engines and aircrafts.

    + Support IR camera system integration to engine/rig and support testing and data post-processing.

    + Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, & product requirements.

    + Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule & budget constraints.

    + Demonstrate systems thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.

    + Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge & judgment.

    + Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.

    + Develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE Aerospace.

    + Will be required to lead an IR team.

    Required Qualifications

    + Master’s or advanced degree in Mechanical engineering, Optics or Physics from an accredited university.

    + 3+ years of experience in mechanical/thermal design, CAE modeling, infra-red system design, temperature measurements for aerospace applications (engines and rigs testing).

    Desired Characteristics

    + 3 years’ experience in optical design engineering position.

    + 3 years’ experience in a mechanical/thermal position.

    + Experience with optical tools such as Zemax, finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.

    + Experience with thermal measurements in aerospace application (Turbines, combustors etc.)

    + Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presentation of technical information.

    + Demonstrated ability to analyze & solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, & program management skills.

    + Highly motivated and passionate.

    + Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
