    The Director of Acute Care Pharmacy Services employs expert knowledge of pharmacy operations, solid leadership, and quality improvement skills to execute the objectives of complex pharmacy services at the University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) – East and West Bank locations. This includes a consistently excellent patient experience, outcomes that meet or exceed quality standards including financial targets, a culture of employee engagement and ongoing organizational and regulatory compliance. This role works collaboratively with site leaders, system leaders and other stakeholders to identify, develop and implement clinical programs and medication services in accordance with site and pharmacy services goals and growth opportunities. This role supports our UMMC location which has the highest acuity patients in the system on the most complex medication therapies. UMMC is the only location in the system to provide cell and gene therapies and the only one with an ECMO program (both adult and pediatric). UMMC pharmacy also provides most hospital investigational drug therapies, as well as the largest number of pharmacy residency programs and student experiential education experiences.

    Manages People

    *Supervise department personnel and leaders on both campuses; accountable for hiring, firing, performance evaluation and disciplinary actions

    Manage Pharmacy Operations

    *Understanding of all service lines, both adult and pediatric,in order to anticipate pharmacy operational and customer needs

    *Uses quality improvement tools and techniques to assess work issues and make process improvements

    *Understanding of outcome measures and oversight of outcome measure results

    *Uses systems thinking to understand the unintended consequences of decisions

    *Recognizes and addresses opportunities for improvement

    *Uses best practices information to set stretch goals

    *Sets appropriate priorities among competing demands

    *Creatively manages resources and staffing issues

    *Meets all regulatory requirements

    *Uses available information technology to support day-to-day work operations

    *Functions as part of the management team for system pharmacy integration and supports medication management system initiatives.

    *Ensures appropriate level of clinical services through pharmaceutical care and clinical oversight programs

    Planning and Financial Management

    *Provides input on strategic, financial and operational direction for pharmacy services.

    *Ensure proper utilization of financial resources

    *Plans for future developments including staffing, services, productivity and workload, computer and capital resources, space and staff education

    *Identifies opportunities and implements cost reduction initiatives along with initiatives for quality improvement

    *Identifies, recommends and implements changes that will improve productivity and/or financial performance

    *Lead contractual implementation and review to establish agreements that are in the best interest of Fairview Pharmacy Services as applicable.

    *Define, implement and communicate key metrics to monitor the performance of Pharmacy Operations regarding finances, productivity, operations and quality

    *Synthesize large data sets into meaningful analysis and tangible strategic business recommendations

    *Acts and liaison with finance and revenue cycle to ensure alignment

    Focuses on Customers

    *Understands the importance of patient experience.

    *Sets an example of exemplary customer service.

    *Continuously builds customer understanding by listening to customers.

    *Anticipates patient needs, including those with different cultural needs and desires.

    *Continuously implements strategies to improve customer satisfaction.

    *Works collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure seamless care and high levels of customer service.

    *Effectively manages physician relationships and supports dyad management structure.

    Required Qualifications

    + Doctorate of Pharmacy

    + 5 years of pharmacy leadership/management experience or 3 years leadership/management plus the completion of an ASHP-accredited Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency

    + MN Pharmacy License

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Masters in Business Admin Advanced degree in health sciences or business (MS, MHA, MPH)

    + ASHP-accredited Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency

    + 5 years of pharmacy leadership/management experience in an academic medical center

    Compensation Disclaimer

     

    The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical.
