Job Description
The Tort Division of the Law Department works closely with development staff, residents and other third parties to identify, investigate, and resolve Tort Claims brought against the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) with the goal of minimizing the cost of disposition.
The position will be responsible for coordinating the cost-effective resolution of appropriate matters by gathering relevant information and communicating with and serving as a point of contact for impacted individuals.
This position encompasses work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility performed under supervision of supervisory legal staff, and attorneys, which may include but is not limited to the following:
- Develop and implement strategies to effectively engage and communicate with development staff, other impacted NYCHA staff, NYCHA residents as appropriate in relation to Tort Claims
brought against NYCHA.
- Oversee the communication of information between impacted NYCHA development staff and residents to the Law Department as required to support the efficient disposition of claims.
- Perform work in the preparation of planning and strategy documents required for funding and contractual engagement of outside counsel, investigators and other vendors that support the Tort
Division.
- Prepare evaluation reports, perform analyses and review program plans, funding and performance within the Tort division.
- Provide authoritative interpretation of complex problems.
- Accurately enter data into designated computer systems and databases from various sources like forms, documents, or spreadsheets.
- Verify data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency by checking for errors, duplicates, and inconsistencies.
- Make recommendations on policies and procedures to improve efficiency of the division management.
- Complete other difficult and responsible clerical operations, including Kronos.

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Salary Min: $ 43,143.00
Salary Max: $ 71,800.00
