Who We Need
Abilities First is seeking a Physical Therapist Assistant for our preschool programs located in Middletown, NY. This position implements appropriate physical therapy programs for each student assigned, under the direct supervision of physical Therapist. The PTA works under the administrative supervision of the program Director
Schedule:Monday- Friday 8:00am-3:00pm, 32.5 hours per week, 48 weeks per year (includes a 6-week summer program)
Pay Range:$22.74-$24.74/hr
Responsibilities:
+ Contributes to evaluation process of students on caseload, conducted by a supervising physical therapist.
+ Provides treatment of designated caseload under the supervision of a physical therapist
+ Schedules assigned caseload (in conjunction with classroom and other related services).
+ Submits all written documentation, as required by School and Preschool policies, under the supervision of a physical therapist. Must adhere to paperwork deadlines, agency forms and content.
+ Communicates student’s response to treatment to the supervising physical therapist. Contributes to the assessment of progress conducted by the supervising physical therapist.
+ Helps identify specific needs for supervision in direct treatment.
+ Contributes to the assessment of student’s equipment needs conducted by a physical therapist
+ Recommends, fabricates or adapts equipment for assigned caseload under direction of a physical therapist.
+ Regularly communicates with parents, classroom staff, and related service personnel, regarding I dividual student’s program and progress, as determined by a physical therapist.
+ Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and parent/ teacher conferences when indicated.
+ Informs appropriate staff of needs for student’s periodic assessment by their physician, as determined by supervising physical therapist
+ Meets weekly with the supervising Physical Therapist.
+ Assists in maintenance of treatment sites.
+ May participate in training of Physical Therapist Assistant students and volunteers.
+ Provides departmental in-services when indicated.
+ Must have a current NYS driver’s license free of moving violations (amendable to class E) deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier.
+ Adheres to APTA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. Adhere to agency Code of Legal and Ethical Behavior, which require all employees, consultants, board members, volunteers and affiliates to perform their responsibilities according to ethical and legal standards with honesty, integrity, fairness, good faith and respect for others and the law.
+ Follows all agency policy and procedures and demonstrates continuous regard to personal safety and the safety of others.
+ Performs other appropriate job-related activities as requested by your supervisor or as circumstances warrant.
+ Adheres to State Education rules and regulations. Preschool employees must adhere to Office of Children and family Services policies.

Requirements
+ A.S Degree from accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program
+ Certified with the N.Y.S. Education Department
+ Valid NYS driver's license deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier.
