Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for an Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation – Wellness in the department of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation. This is a 10-month position that will coordinate all aspects of Group X Fitness classes including risk management, policies and procedures, scheduling, event management, and daily business operations.

Duties include:• Recruit, hire, train, schedule and evaluate Group X Fitness instructor.• Develop a certification program for Group X Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, & etc.• Create and promote special events that support well-being and interest in wellness.• Maintain and update Group X Fitness & Personal Trainer participant manual and rules/regulations.• Recommend wellness and special event budget and equipment needs to the Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation.• Oversight of all fitness equipment and manage the Advantage Sports cardio equipment lease• Assist the Director in the daily operations of the Athletic and Wellness center.• Assist the director in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating AWC student staff.• Supervisor fitness attendants, group X fitness staff, personal trainers, and curse workers• Develop and implement a campus-wide marketing program to advertise and promote Wellness and Recreation events, programs, and updates.• Coordinate and collaborate with other departments for wellness and special events.• Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk within Wellness & Recreation programming.• Collaboration with university and community stakeholders to promote health and wellness.• Assist Director of Wellness & Recreation with a formal assessment program for Wellness & Recreation office.• Involvement in strategic departmental and divisional initiatives

Qualifications: • Bachelors degree• Two (2) years experience organizing, planning, and implementing wellness programing, and special events in a college or university setting• Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student, staff, and patrons.• Ability to work nights and weekends and observe a schedule that meets operational needs• Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required. Training and recertification can be provided if necessary.

Preferred:

• Masters Degree• Experience working and supervising fitness class teachers & personal trainer• Ability to certify fitness class instructors
