Lead Vocational Specialist

Purpose:
The Lead Vocational Specialist position at UPMC's Vocational Training Center, which includes the Vocational Center and Supported Employment Program, is mandated by DPW Chapter 2390 regulations. This role involves working with consumers diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, Autism, and often secondary mental health conditions. Key responsibilities include developing client assessments, goal plans, and Individual Service Plans, as well as creating curricula to help clients improve their independent functioning and prepare for more independent work settings. The Program Specialist provides supervision, instruction, and individualized training for clients, including those seeking competitive employment. Effective communication with all stakeholders is essential, and the role requires participation in various tasks and duties as assigned.
This position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Responsibilities:
• **Oversee Paid Work:** Ensure accurate and efficient completion of paid work opportunities for program participants.
• **Program Preparation:** Develop and implement a training curriculum to prepare clients for advanced vocational settings or supported employment.
• **Assist with Self-Care:** Help clients with basic self-care and hygiene activities.
• **Review and Adjust Goals:** Review monthly goal plan progress notes and make necessary changes.
• **Production Assistance:** Prepare work assignments, provide group coverage, and assist with bulk mailing and job completion.
• **Coordinate Plans:** Manage Individual Written Program Plan (IWPP) and Individual Supports Plan (ISP) reviews, including scheduling and conducting meetings.
• **Agency Representation:** Represent the Vocational Training Center at agency planning meetings.
• **Quarterly Reviews:** Provide written quarterly reviews of participants' IWPP.
• **Staff Training:** Educate and train staff on assessments, goal plan development, and implementation.
• **Goal Plan Development:** Develop and oversee individual goal plans for participants.
• **Behavior Management:** Develop strategies for managing behaviors that interfere with program participation.
• **Team Collaboration:** Work with the interdisciplinary team to develop client assessments and goal plans.
• **Relationship Building:** Maintain good relationships with staff, family members, and agencies.
• **Team Environment:** Foster a collaborative team environment through idea development and follow-through.
• **Documentation:** Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for assessments, goal plans, and monthly summaries.
• **Vehicle Maintenance:** Adhere to vehicle maintenance policies, inspect vehicles, report issues, and maintain cleanliness.
• **Regulatory Compliance:** Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
• **Assessments:** Complete initial and annual assessments for program participants.
• **Professional Development:** Continue professional growth through education and career development.
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Psychology, or other human service field. Master's degree preferred.
• Prior experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of behaviorally oriented treatment programs.
• Two years prior experience in an applied setting working with individuals with Intellectual Disabilities.
• Experience with individuals with a dual (MH/ID) diagnosis is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated skill in the development and delivery of instructional programming material.
• Good writing and communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills are essential, as position requires frequent interaction with private sector employers on behalf of the consumers being served.
• Basic computer literacy.

Act 33 clearances are required. Act 34 clearances are required. Act 73 clearances are required.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
