UPMC Hamot is looking for a casual Patient Care Technician to join the MICU!

At least one year of previous patient care technician experience required.

_Title and Salary are determined based upon education and experience._

Responsibilities:

+ Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily activities. Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

+ Provides feedback to RN, reports changes in patient status. Performs core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care.

+ Performs at least four additional tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal.

+ Reports equipment malfunctions, communicates with other departments. Establishes professional, respectful relationships.

+ Contributes to unit activities: responding to call lights, phones, passing meal trays, transporting patients.

+ Receives feedback, identifies learning needs, improves knowledge and skills.

+ Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, manages patient restraints. Communicates effectively with healthcare team, understands cultural diversity and workplace safety.

+ Adheres to policies and procedures, complies with safety standards. Supports department changes, projects, and quality initiatives.

+ Documents in medical records, performs clerical functions.

+ Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal.

+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Must have either:

+ 1 year of general healthcare experience.

+ 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion.

+ Enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training with at least one clinical rotation.

+ Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

+ Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class. Successful completion of basic information system training.

+ Microcomputer experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

+ EMT or Paramedic certification, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

+ Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

+ ACLS preferred
