Job Description
General Scope of Duties
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Sr. Endowment Accountant is responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual accounting related to the College’s $450+ million endowment, the underlying investment portfolio, financial modelling the annual endowment distribution, forecasting various distribution scenarios, quarterly financial reporting and responding to donor and account holder questions, recommending appropriate action on a wide variety of legal and accounting issues related to endowments, spending budgets and other projects as assigned. This position serves as a key liaison between the Accounting department and departments throughout the College to resolve issues and answer questions regarding specific gift and endowment funds. Additionally, the incumbent will manage the flow of information around gifts and pledges between the College’s
Advancement and Accounting departments. The successful candidate is exceptionally well organized and action oriented, a data driven, skilled analyst, excellent listener and thoughtful communicator. The position is also responsible for evaluating & recommending appropriate endowment accounting treatment in accordance
with GAAP , GAAS and Universal Guidance including but not limited to review of gift agreements, auditing ledgers, preparing data for the investment footnotes in the annual financial statements, preparing and reviewing journal entries, preparing schedules for endowment distribution account holders, monthly investment reconciliations, and performing or reviewing complex account reconciliations.
General Duties and Responsibilities
+ 1. Maintain records of fund participation in the endowment investment pool (processing investment, gift and other activity into Banner endowment management system and general ledger). Complete all administrative functions and maintain accurate investment accounting records for all of the college’s investments and split-interest arrangements, including charitable gift annuities, pooled income funds, and trusts (processing trading and other investment activity; reconciling and verifying activity to bank and other records; recording related activity into the Banner general ledger and endowment management system).
+ Reconcile all endowment accounts, both on the investment and internal fund sides, gift revenue, particularly contributions receivable between Finance and Advancement modules. Maintain accounting records for contributions receivable (annual rollforward). Reconcile all accounts, including resolution of any outstanding items.
+ Monitor and maintain the investment email inbox, and act on and complete requests for capital calls, redemption activities, fund set up documentation and any other requests related to investment funds.
+ Post and reconcile payments to proper ledger accounts and student accounts; verify deposits of Advancement gift proceeds; follow-up with Advancement/other departments on any discrepancies; balance daily cash receipt batches and reports between general ledger and cash drawer.
+ Post journal entries to the Banner Finance general ledger system.
+ Act as the departmental point person for all audit items relating to the endowment and gifts/pledges/trusts, etc. Complete all schedules and footnotes for the annual audit.
+ Additional duties as assigned or as necessary.
Education and Skills
+ 1. Bachelors degree and 4 to 5 years of experience in higher education accounting/accounts receivable and/or office administration procedures
+ Strong written and oral communication skills
+ strong computer skills (Ellucian Banner/Microsoft Office experience preferred) and analytical skills; strong knowledge of general ledger accounting preferred
+ Must be detail oriented
+ Well-organized, able to work under pressure
+ Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all parts of the college community
+ Knowledge of general office equipment
+ High integrity needed to handle confidential information

Salary Range $59,000 to $68,000.
