    Arwood Machine, a VulcanForms Company, seeks an Inspection Supervisor for our Newburyport, MA, location.

     

    Job Purpose

     

    We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Inspection Supervisor to lead our inspection team within a high-precision aerospace and defense manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for overseeing inspection processes, ensuring compliance with AS9100 and other quality standards, and supporting the continuous improvement of our quality management system.

    Key Accountabilities

    + Supervise day-to-day operations of the inspection team, including receiving, in-process, and final inspections.

    + Ensure all products meet customer, engineering, and regulatory requirements.

    + Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve quality-related issues.

    + Monitor and maintain inspection documentation, records, and certifications.

    + Train and mentor inspection personnel in inspection techniques, use of equipment, and adherence to procedures.

    + Oversee calibration and proper use of inspection tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMMs).

    + Support internal, customer, and third-party audits (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP).

    + Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action initiatives.

    + Track inspection metrics and prepare reports for quality and production leadership.

    + Champion a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

    + Perform final visual and dimensional inspections of components as required.

    + Identify and report non-conformances, ensuring proper corrective actions are taken.

    Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent

    + 5+ years of experience in aerospace quality control/inspection and 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment

    + Strong knowledge of aerospace industry standards, including AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, and NADCAP requirements.

    + Proficiency with mechanical inspection tools, GD&T, reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

    + Familiarity with CMM operation and programming (Calypso preferred).

    + Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.

    + Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

    + Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and document control software.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

    + Preferred proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

    + Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

    Physical Requirements

    + Prolonged periods of standing or sitting.

    + Visual acuity to inspect small components and read detailed documentation

    + Must use safety protection when and where required.
