Description
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry, in Rochester, NY is seeking a Cytopathologist. This position will be primary cytopathology while potentially providing some support to one of the surgical pathology subspecialties. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the position will have an academic component, which may include translational or clinical research. Leadership opportunities could be available for interested experienced candidates. The anticipated rank is open, and commensurate with experience.
The Cytopathology Division at the University of Rochester annually evaluates 55,000 GYN Pap tests, 13,000 Non-GYN specimens including a diverse mix of body cavity fluids and fine needle aspirations, and many interesting consult cases. There is a robust fine needle aspiration service throughout the hospital, composed of approximately 2,500 fine needle aspiration procedures. Immediate on-site evaluations are rendered for a range of procedures, including endobronchial ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations (EBUS), endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations, CT-guided fine needle aspirations, ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations, and fine needle aspirations of palpable lesions. In addition, we have various special interactive programs for cytopathologists including real-time intraoperative evaluations with thoracic surgeons and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations performed by cytopathologists.
The University of Rochester Medical Center is a highly collegial environment with many opportunities for collaboration particularly with investigators in the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. This is a very active oncologic service with expertise in many types of solid tumors. The successful candidate will actively participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the diagnosis and treatment of solid tumors. The Wilmot Cancer Center Institute also has a strong research program that promotes collaboration in basic, translational and clinical programs for investigators.
Post-offer health assessments and drug testing is required to be performed on-site.

Qualifications
Candidates must have completed medical school having an MD or MD-PhD, or equivalent as well as a cytopathology fellowship, be board certified/eligible in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology, and eligible for a medical license in the State of New York. Candidates would join the faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commensurate with the candidate's experience.
