    Job Summary

    The Office of the Chief Safety at the Department of Public Safety is currently seeking two self-motivated candidates for it’s Public Safety Intern program for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. As an intern you will be collaborating within the department and campus community on special projects based on need and your unique interests. Past projects have included: archival research, new student orientation, student engagement, and conference preparation.

     

    Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The Chief Safety Officer ( CSO ) for the University is the Director of Public Safety and serves as chief of police services. The CSO is responsible for overseeing the University’s Department of Public Safety, which includes the following operational divisions: University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative Office of the CSO .

     

    Safety looks and feels different to each person, and the U Department of Public Safety is committed to working with the community to foster a safe environment where all individuals feel empowered and equipped to succeed in their work, education, and other business with the university.

    Responsibilities

    + Work up to 10 hours a week based on need, academic schedule, and events.

    + Collaborate with DPS teams and/or individuals on special projects.

    + Leads campus and state-wide safety initiatives, including the annual Utah Campus Safety Conference.

    + Identify, organize, and produce a relevant campus safety project to elicit feedback and opinions from members of our campus communities on their safety concerns and priorities.

    + Upon conclusion of internship presents project findings to DPS team and/or leadership.
