    The Opportunity

     

    The position of **Sr. Manager Research Science** **is within our Infectious Disease business unit located on site in San Diego, California.** This role works 4 days a week, 10 hours a day and is 2nd shift.

     

    We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people

     

    This role is responsible for leadership of the Fast Action Team (evening R&D team). It includes responsibility for the planning, design, and implementation of experiments and studies supporting the Quicksilver program. The role will need to collaborate closely with the daytime R&D assay design and development teams as well as Systems Development and Software.

     

    This position will involve supervision of the members of the team as well as collaboration with other peripheral roles that have input such as project managers, R&D roles and others in related roles as well as having input and responsibility for aspects of the project timelines and communication with cross-functional teams. This role may be expected to prepare and present regularly to management.

    What you'll work on

    + Assemble, manage and supervise the team responsible for the organization, coordination and completion of work associated with new assay design and development for Quicksilver and coordinate team members to ensure required documentation is complete. Collaborate with other R&D groups and departments as needed to ensure successful completion of tasks and studies.

    + Complete laboratory testing and studies including but not limited to; testing of cartridges, running ddPCR and analyzing the data to determine viral and bacterial quantifications, preparing and running samples on the Illumina MiSeq (sequencing), and preparing virus and bacterial samples

    + Design and execute verification and validation studies for Quicksilver

    + Design, conduct, evaluate and document Test Method Validations for new methods.

    + Establish department goals, milestones, and timelines for completion.

    + Hire and train new technical staff. Ensure all training is properly documented.

    + Manages performance of staff towards department and Company goals, including feedback on performance, appraisals, recommendations for merit increases or necessary disciplinary actions, communication to employees on performance, etc.

    + Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job; has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification and validation, manufacturing and testing activities

    + Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices; build productive internal/external working relationships

    + Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies

    + Other duties as assigned, according to the changing needs of the business

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree

    + 7 years of related experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Use of JMP or Minitab for data analysis.

    + IVD knowledge and working experience of at least 4 years.

    + Assay Development experience of at least 4 years.

    + Managment experience of at least 3 years.

    The base pay for this position is $112,000.00 – $224,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
