THIS IS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY.
Position will serve as the Assist District Engineer in the Division 10, District 2 office located in Mecklenburg County. Position will be responsible for the oversight of complex developments, encroachments, driveway permits, subdivisions, and construction projects. Position acts as the lead for Department by coordinating the reviews and is the point person for developers, engineers and government entities to contact for information. Will consult with the Resident Engineer's concerning maintenance issues that arise during the construction of TIP projects and will attend all final inspections for TIP and certain purchase order projects in Mecklenburg County. Position will assist the District Engineer in administering other programs such as: Secondary Construction, Outdoor Advertising, Over Dimension Permits and Adopt-A-Highway. Position will serve as the Supervisor in the absence of the District Engineer. Will attend all municipal, monthly CDOT Coordination meetings and attend numerous meetings with developers, engineers and government agencies on high profile developments throughout the county. Will represent the Department on technical issues and advise the parties involved on the policies and specifications. Also provides engineering support for Field Services Engineers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

+ Knowledge of NCDOT programming, planning, scheduling and funding procedures
+ Possess a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of professional civil engineering as they apply to highway and traffic engineering and transportation planning
+ Experience planning, developing, designing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects, independently or with minimal supervision
+ Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects
+ Computer experience including office software and drafting software
Additional Expectations:
Ability to perform assigned tasks, to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to analyze and solve difficult highway maintenance and construction problems. Ability to read and interpret highway construction plans. Ability to prepare and review reports. Assist in the supervision of and monitoring of secondary construction programs to ensure efficient use of personnel and resources. Ability to communicate with others in technical terms. Also must be able to establish good working relationships with developers, engineers and government entities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
