    TITLE: Groundskeeper/Transportation Specialist

    REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

    Starting Salary: $23.00 - $23.50 based on experience

    Position Purpose:

    Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Groundskeeper/Transportation Specialist is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation for students, staff, and others while also performing various groundskeeping tasks, including routine gardening, maintenance, and repair work.

    Essential Functions: Transportation Responsibilities:

    + Safely operates a school bus over designated routes in accordance with schedules, ensuring safe pick-up and drop-off of students.

    + Transports students, staff, and others for field trips and activities.

    + Conducts pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections, ensuring the vehicle is clean and in safe working order.

    + Reports mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.

    + Cleans and refuels buses as needed.

    + Ensures compliance with all safety regulations, including student supervision, bus drills, and emergency procedures.

    + Maintains required records and reports related to bus operations.

    + Arranges for and ensures the completion of routine bus maintenance.

    Groundskeeper Responsibilities:

    + Plants, cultivates, prunes, and waters trees, hedges, shrubs, and flowers to maintain attractiveness and health.

    + Prepares and treats soil for planting and weed control.

    + Maintains lawns and turf re-seeding, edging, and weeding as necessary.

    + Rakes leaves and hoes weeds.

    + Mixes and applies insecticides, fungicides and herbicides, sets bait and traps to maintain assigned areas free from pest and plant diseases.

    + Installs, repairs, maintains and adjusts sprinklers and sprinkler systems.

    + Cleans and maintains drains and flow lines free from debris.

    + Assists in laying out and marking athletic and recreation fields.

    + Prepares grounds, ball fields, courtyards, flower beds to provide adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies and/or recreational activity.

    + Transports a variety of equipment to provide materials and supplies at the job site as required to complete tasks.

    + Mows lawn areas with power mower and edges around walks and shrub areas.

    + Weeds and cleans around shrub areas and trees.

    + Uses hand tools to work soil and to remove weeds, undergrowth, and debris from school grounds and landscaped areas.

    + Cleans out water drainage in yards and cleans gutters on buildings.

    + Operates and performs minor service and repair to a variety of related hand and power tools including mowers, sweepers, edgers, sprayers.

    + Maintains groundskeeping equipment and supplies to ensure availability in safe operating condition.

    + Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle operation, and bus safety procedures.

    + Proficiency in maintenance and repair work, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.

    + Ability to follow work orders and prioritize tasks efficiently.

    + Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot maintenance and transportation issues.

    + Effective communication and organizational skills.

    + Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Certification/License:

    + Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

    + Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) B with Air Brakes including Passenger and School Bus Endorsements (or willingness to obtain).

    Education & Experience:

    + High school diploma or GED required.

    + Knowledge of basic methods, tools, and equipment used in grounds maintenance; - proper groundskeeping and gardening methods and practices including the fundamentals of and general plant care; - procedures of groundskeeping and gardening materials, use, care, and safety;.

    + Knowledge safe use and operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in gardening, repair and grounds maintenance work.
