The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is seeking highly qualified applicants for their fulltime Chief Academic Officer position in the Office of Technical Education. The Deputy Commissioner serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and is a key member of the System Office Executive Leadership Team. This position is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for technical and adult education programs across the state. The Chief Academic Officer ensures alignment with industry needs, state workforce priorities, and higher education initiatives, fostering student success and economic growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership and strategic oversight of all educational programs within TCSG, including technical education, student support, adult education, and workforce development.
• Advise the Commissioner on policy development, strategic planning, and implementation of statewide education initiatives.
• Work closely with technical college presidents and System Office leadership to enhance instructional quality and student outcomes.
• Lead curriculum development and ensures alignment with industry needs, student success metrics, and workforce demands.
• Collaborate with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), the University System of Georgia (USG), and other stakeholders to enhance seamless education pathways.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, state and federal regulations, and TCSG policies.
• Provide leadership in enrollment management, retention strategies, and student success initiatives.
• Strengthen relationships with business and industry leaders to align curriculum with workforce needs and expand apprenticeship and internship opportunities.
• Develop strategies to increase access to technical education, ensuring equity in educational opportunities.
• Provide leadership in assuring educational programs and student services are in compliance with state and federal law and regulations as well as applicable institutional and programmatic accreditation standards
• Oversee system-wide data analysis to track student performance, workforce outcomes, and institutional effectiveness, using insights to guide policy and program improvements.
• Work with state lawmakers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies and funding that support technical and adult education initiatives.
• Lead initiatives to modernize technical education by integrating emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, digital credentialing, and the use of educational technology to enhance student engagement and success.
• Partner with economic development agencies to identify workforce trends and ensure TCSG is responsive to the changing labor market.
• Serve as a spokesperson for technical education in Georgia, promoting its value to students, families, and the broader community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational leadership, public administration, or a related field and Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in technical education, higher education, or a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in education, higher education administration, workforce development, public policy, or a related field.
• Executive leadership experience in a state agency, technical college system, or university system.
• Experience leading strategic initiatives in technical or adult education, such as competency-based learning, online education, or apprenticeship programs.
• Familiarity with Georgia’s higher education system, economic development priorities, and labor market trends.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
• Ability to set a clear vision for technical and adult education and drive initiatives that align with workforce needs and economic development.
• Skill in leading transformational change within an educational system, ensuring smooth implementation of new policies and programs.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Ability to influence education policy, navigate regulatory environments, and advocate for technical education at state and national levels.
• Deep understanding of instructional best practices, curriculum development, and competency-based education.
• Knowledge of industry trends, labor market data, and strategies to bridge skills gaps through technical education programs.
• Familiarity with accreditation requirements, compliance standards, and best practices in student success and retention.
• Ability to analyze education and workforce data to shape policies, improve outcomes, and demonstrate institutional effectiveness.
• Strong ability to collaborate with college presidents, state agencies, business leaders, legislators, and other educational institutions.
