Job Title: Electronic technician
Job Description
The Marine Electrician plays a critical role in supporting the Field Installation Services organization on board US Navy ships. This position involves installing, terminating, and testing fiber optic and copper cable assemblies to support various ship services, including power, communication, telephone, and alarm systems. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work from customer drawings are essential. Experience with multi-pin copper connectors is required, while fiber optic skills are preferred but can be trained in-house. The candidate should be willing to work overtime, including weekends, and travel for extended periods.
Responsibilities
+ Install, tag, and band fiber optic and copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval Vessels.
+ Perform all duties required to layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, waveguides, or fiber optic cable onboard Navy vessels.
+ Troubleshoot and test fiber and copper cables and circuits.
+ Perform tasks with little supervision, using skills acquired in shipboard or airframe electrician's trade.
+ Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
+ Use all tools of the trade such as multi-meters, pin crimpers, soldering tools, and handle complex electrical installations.
+ Familiarity with basic computer skills and MS-Office programs, including Word and Excel.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships.
+ Experience with multi-pin copper connector certification per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5).
+ Familiarity with NAVY Standard Items.
+ Ability to read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
+ Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Fiber Optic knowledge and experience preferred.
+ DBIDS eligibility.
+ Ideal candidate will be former Navy as an Electronics Technician (ET), Information Systems Technician (IC), Aviation Maintenance (AT), and/or Electrician's Mate (EM).
+ Valid passport and willingness to travel.
+ Successful completion of Navy “A” School or a recognized electrical apprenticeship program.
+ Shipyard competent person certification is a plus.

Work Environment
Work is performed at various locations, including NBSD, NASNI (Coronado), CMSD, NASSCO, and BAE. Opportunities may also be available in San Antonio, TX, and Groton, CT, through contracts with General Dynamics Electric Boat. The role requires flexibility to work outside San Diego when necessary.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of National City, California.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
