    General Function

    The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.

    Description of Primary Duties

    Full-time, ten-month assistant professor position in the School of Hospitality & Agricultural Leadership at Missouri State University teaching undergraduate courses and serving as the program coordinator for agriculture education. Teach a standard load of nine undergraduate and/or graduate course credits per academic semester. Courses may include Introduction to Agriculture Education, Methods of Teaching, and related courses. Supervise student teaching and practicum experience for students in agriculture education. Scholarly activity may include grant-writing, publication of research, and supervising graduate students’ research projects. Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students. Collaborate with colleagues at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, as well as the Missouri State University College of Education. Coordinate FFA events for the College of Agriculture.

     

    Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

     

    The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.

    Additional Qualifications

    A doctoral degree with emphasis in Agricultural Education or in a related field relevant to the position; a valid teaching certificate in Agriculture Education. Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, teaching and programming development skills. Relevant classroom teaching experience is required. A willingness to serve the academic unit, college, and the university is required.
