Job Summary - Litigation Paralegal

This esteemed litigation boutique firm specializes in a wide range of civil litigation matters, including product liability, intellectual property, antitrust, and other complex commercial disputes. The firm prioritizes efficient case resolution by utilizing fixed monthly fees and alternative billing arrangements. Frequently collaborating with national law firms, the firm operates as a specialized litigation task force, focusing on trial strategy, expert and science teams, and key discovery processes. The work is engaging, challenging, and impactful.

The firm is seeking Litigation Paralegals to join their team in the Chicago office. This role involves performing advanced legal support for complex civil litigation matters under the supervision of partners. Litigation Paralegals are integral to the firm's dynamic, fast-paced environment, taking ownership of responsibilities across all litigation stages, mentoring staff, and contributing to the firm’s collaborative culture and operations.

Litigation Paralegals often serve as representatives of the firm, coordinating with clients, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, co-counsel, and legal vendors.

Key Responsibilities

This role includes, but is not limited to, the following essential functions:

+ Lead and manage litigation support through all phases of the case, such as filing complaints, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.

+ Oversee and organize case files to ensure consistency and accessibility.

+ Draft and prepare legal documents, including proofreading, cite-checking, and ensuring compliance with relevant court rules and procedures.

+ Assist in managing and supporting e-discovery and document review processes, leveraging advanced e-discovery platforms.

+ Conduct research on case-specific information, such as court rules, standing orders, and procedural guidelines.

+ Actively participate in trial teams with potential travel to trial locations for extended periods, requiring substantial time commitment and adaptability.

+ Mentor and supervise team members, fostering growth and skills development while overseeing quality control of their work.

+ Coordinate tasks with attorneys and other staff to meet deadlines proactively while managing competing priorities.

Requirements

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements

+ Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or a certificate from a recognized two-year paralegal program.

+ Experience:

+ Minimum 3+ years of experience in a paralegal or equivalent legal support role (preferred with litigation experience).

+ Leadership experience managing small litigation matters or serving as the primary point of contact for specific case-related tasks is highly desirable.

+ Background in litigation, product liability, commercial disputes, intellectual property, or antitrust litigation is an asset.

+ Technological Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw), and legal document management software (e.g., NetDocuments). Familiarity with e-discovery tools and processes is essential.
