Summary You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENT, SAFETY AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT (C106.3), ENVIRONMENT DIVISION of PSNS and IMF. Responsibilities You will Assess hazardous waste and material created by organizational processes, designate waste to ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste and material. You will assist engineers and higher-level specialists in assessing chemicals and chemical processes for hazardous material authorization and hazardous waste minimization and disposal efforts. You will research regulations to determine potential impacts on the shipyard and recommend corrective actions. You will assist in the preparation of routine reports to regulators, internal and external correspondence, review of records and other documents to determine designation of waste and disposition of wastes based on sample results. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: experience performing environmental inspections on industrial operations (worksites, storages areas, facilities); collecting and reviewing inspection data; and identifying regulatory compliance deficiencies. For the GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting with on-site investigations of hazardous waste handling and disposal efforts to identify and minimize hazards or violations and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
