The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.
Description of Job:
As the Reliability Engineer at Valent BioSciences, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and coordinating the maintenance reliability programs and activities of the location on key assets, utilities, and support equipment—including the wastewater pre-treatment facility—through the use of personal knowledge, engineering resources, production coordinators, and maintenance employees. The goal is to ensure maximum availability and operational efficiency of these assets while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.
The position also provides engineering support for the operation, maintenance, and compliance of the on-site wastewater pre-treatment plant, ensuring safe and effective environmental management.
Essential Functions:
+ Lead and manage the Mechanical Integrity Program for equipment and facilities.
+ Lead preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve and upgrade the reliability of equipment and facilities.
+ Develop and implement maintenance strategies for wastewater pre-treatment systems, including pumps, aeration, biological treatment units, and instrumentation.
+ Prepare predictive and preventive maintenance plans applying company standards and manufacturers' recommendations.
+ Manage the design, procurement, and construction of capital projects in accordance with OSHA, PSM, and applicable environmental regulations.
+ Take a lead role in minimizing energy usage through innovation.
+ Define strategic spare parts stock based on reliability tools.
+ Drive programs to improve safety, quality, and cost in the Maintenance function.
+ Ensure Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) compliance, including wastewater regulatory requirements and documentation.
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Assist Site manufacturing production, maintenance, and reliability teams with data analytics and reporting to maintain and improve daily Site manufacturing performance.
+ Support the operation and troubleshooting of the wastewater pre-treatment plant, collaborating with Environmental Health & Safety and Operations teams.
+ Commission and validate projects, including wastewater-related improvements, and author Standard Work documentation.
+ Partner with Maintenance Manager to develop and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations to maintain equipment reliability.
+ Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis and implement reliability and preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
+ Participate in engineering activities that improve the reliability and compliance of equipment, including wastewater systems.
+ Train employees in maintenance reliability principles and the operational importance of wastewater systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of industrial maintenance and reliability engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with wastewater treatment systems, especially biological pre-treatment processes, preferred.
• Experience in a food-grade processing facility is a plus.
• Expertise in Vibration, Infrared, Alignment, Ultrasonic, Motor Circuit, and Lubrication analysis.
• Background in rotating equipment, seals, piping, pumps, fans, blowers, material handling equipment, and wastewater processing equipment.
• Proven record of managing engineering projects.
• 2+ years of reliability-centered maintenance program development or implementation.
• 2+ years of maintenance planning.
• 2+ years supporting troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
• 2+ years of condition-based monitoring systems experience.

Base Salary: The estimated annual base salary for this position ranges from: $81,200 to 105,500. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Incentives: All full-time employees are eligible for an incentive program or profit-sharing program in addition to their base salary.
