    Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority (ImCal HSA) exists so that citizens with mental health, addictions, and developmental challenges residing in the parishes of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis are empowered, and self-determination is valued such that individuals live a satisfying, hopeful, and contributing life.

     

    This position may be filled as a job appointment. Job appointments may last up to 4 years & may be converted to a probational appointment.No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.

     

    As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Professional Counselor 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.     The minimum biweekly starting pay for this position is as follows: Professional Counselor 1 - $1470.40, Professional Counselor 2 - $1573.60, Professional Counselor 3 - $1684.00, & Professional Counselor 4 - $1801.60.

    Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) or a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (PLMFT).

    FUNCTION OF WORK:

    To provide professional counseling services.

    Close from a licensed behavioral health professional or higher-level manager or administrator.

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

    None.

    LOCATION OF WORK:

    May be used by all state agencies.

    JOB DISTINCTIONS:

    Differs from the Social Service Counselor job series by presence of recognition as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern or a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern by the Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.

     

    Differs from the Professional Counselor 2 by the absence of greater independence and more complex caseloads.

     

    Job Duties and Other Information

     

    Provide individual, family, and group counseling/therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with mental health and substance use disorders based on individualized treatment plans. Use evidenced based practices and an integrated treatment models to treat/counsel individuals served toward achieving their identified goals. Serve as a liaison and coordinator between the individual served, their family, and other agencies/providers. Collaborate with the treating psychiatric provider and multi-disciplinary team to facilitate care. Provide clients and families with education regarding psychiatric and behavioral health conditions and related services. Identify areas of need and make appropriate referrals to ImCal programs and/or community services that best meet those needs. Keep informed about community resources and make appropriate referrals for supplemental supports and services. Evaluate, monitor, and document progress in treatment. Conduct transition and discharge planning. Maintain required documentation on individuals served in ImCal’s designated electronic health record.

     

    Conduct comprehensive psycho-social assessments which result in accurate diagnoses and functional/interpretive summaries. Use evidenced based screening and diagnostic scales to thoroughly assess for the presence and severity of various disorders and associated risk. Use clinical skills, supervision, and consultation to identify psycho-social factors to be addressed in counseling/therapy. Determine situational and/or supportive counseling/therapy needs and identify the strengths and vulnerabilities of the individuals served, which may have clinical significance in the therapeutic intervention. Develop appropriate in-depth, individualized, time-oriented goals and objectives during the treatment planning process and create safety plans for those at greater risk of harm.

     

    Provide crisis screening, assessment, and intervention to individuals who are at an increased risk of harm. This includes collaboration with the psychiatrist or other prescribing provider, and the family, with linkage to higher-level care, such as hospital emergency departments, inpatient substance use disorder treatment facilities, or other social/community services.

     

    Attend clinical unit meetings and inservice trainings. Complete required training and continuing education as mandated by ImCal policy and clinical license. Communicate with various agencies: inpatient treatment facilities, court/judicial system, Probation and Parole, DCFS, and clients, and family members in an effort to ensure continuity of care for individuals served. Provide testimony and recommendations in court cases, on behalf of the individual/family served.
