The Space Propulsion and Advanced Concepts Engineering in the William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics has an opening for a temporary research scientist/engineer 1 to help support a number of funded research programs in the area of electric space propulsion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Space Propulsion and Advanced Concepts Engineering in the William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics has an opening for a temporary research scientist/engineer 1 to help support a number of funded research programs in the area of electric space propulsion. The positions major duties and responsibilities are:
Electromechanical System Design and Implementation
+ **Work independently to design and test various electromechanical systems.**
+ Design and implement motorized actuation stages for in-vacuum experiments
+ Construct and test inverted pendulum thrust stand for electric propulsion testing
+ Contribute data to papers being written for reports/publication
+ Participate in lab meetings
+ Identify problems and related technical issue and recommend solutions **Electric Propulsion Vacuum System Development and Testing Research Scientist/Engineer 1 (E S UAW RSE)**
+ Work independently to design and test electric propulsion vacuum systems.
+ Design and construct thermal shroud for vacuum test chamber
+ Design and construct beam dump for vacuum test chamber
+ Contribute data to papers being written for reports/publication
+ Participate in lab meetings
+ Identify problems and related technical issue and recommend solutions **General Lab Administration and Operations**
+ Engage in tasks to maintain and fix equipment as needed
+ Helps to maintain an organized lab
+ Maintenance of accurate and organized records of data in the lab
+ Other tasks as assigned **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor's degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics or other applicable field and a minimum of one year experience in an Engineering Lab or equivalent combination of education/experience **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Ability to multi-task and support multiple projects
+ Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds
+ Ability and willingness to adhere to University, local and federal policies on environmental, health and safety and to complete all required safety training according to timelines set by the supervisor.
+ Ability to work collaboratively, respectfully and professionally with others.
