    As a Pacemaker Technician, you will help maintain the Pacemaker Clinic alongside the Electrophysiologist Cardiologists. This position is essential to the treatment and well-being of patients, allowing you to utilize your skills and knowledge to enhance their lives, health and overall outcomes.

     

    A caregiver in this position works days from 8:30AM - 5:00PM.

    A caregiver who excels in this role will:

    + Perform ECG analysis with and without magnet application (pacemaker only).

    + Perform interrogation of the patient's device with the programmer that is appropriate for their device, printing out and reviewing data such as parameter, battery and lead statuses and heart rate histograms.

    + Perform output threshold testing of the pacemaker lead(s) to determine optimal settings for the device.

    + Determine underlying rhythm and sensing function, if requested.

    + Verify final parameters and changes, referring results to be reviewed by a Cardiologist.

    + Refer patients to a nurse or Cardiologist for a physical assessment and for any changes in the patient's condition or worsening of symptoms or arrhythmias.

    + Consult technical support specialists of the company that has manufactured the pacemaker or defibrillator for a detailed review of the findings and for assistance with advanced programming details.

    + Examine the trans-telephonic results, comparing them to known indicators of proper functioning and sub clinical failure, and refer the findings to a Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist.

    + After analysis of trans-telephonic results, instruct the patient to report to local cardiologist for a more detailed follow-up, if requested by the Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist.

    + Maintain a database through the Paceart Computer System for patient recalls and follow-up and provide booklets for patient education.

    + Note any device and lead alerts that are received from any manufacturer and notify any patients who are affected by such alerts as prescribed by the alert notice.

    + Assist the Device Tracking Divisions of the various manufacturers to maintain their database with current patient information.

    + Relay information on advances and changes in pacemaker defibrillation technology to colleagues in the department.

    + Keep up to date on technical advances by attending seminars that provide CEUs.

    + Order specialized paper for individual programmers and patient education materials.

    + Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation and files at all times, including product and service quotes.

    Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + Six months of basic ECG training with arrhythmia knowledge from an accredited school

    + Six months of hospital experience

    + Adequate math skills to maintain accurate records and reports

    Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

    + One year of specialized pacemaker experience

    **Physical Requirements** :

    + Interact with patients, families, physicians and other health care workers.

    + Good hand coordination for positioning of electrodes and equipment.

    + Good vision to analyze computer screens and graph recordings to diagnose test results.

    + Moderate lifting and positioning of patients. Moderate pushing and pulling of equipment.

    + 100% air conditioned.

    + Moderate risk of exposure to blood or airborne pathogens.

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    + Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
