    Position Summary

    As a key resource to the Division of Human Anatomy and medical education programs across four campuses, this position manages the University's Willed Body Program, based in East Lansing. Additionally, this position supervises and directs the operation of the Human Gross Anatomy Lab in East Lansing. This is a full-time position and is mission-critical to support operations of the Anatomy program.

     

    Maintains the oversight and use of Willed Body Program (WBP) anatomical material

     

    + COM and CHM, including Advanced Baccalaureate Learning Experience (ABLE)

    + MSU SCS (Statewide Campus System)

    + MSU undergraduate courses

    + Outside colleges, universities, healthcare institutions and external clients

    + Approves the care and maintenance of all WBP material at all locations

     

    Provides oversight of donation process

     

    + Works with families, agencies, medical personnel and MSU staff to facilitate body donations, including after-hours inquiries

    + Reviews medical records to ensure each donor meets acceptance criteria

    + Maintains confidential records, files and inventory information pertaining to human body donors, including hard copy files and records, WBP database, and Master Cadaver Spreadsheet

    + Collaborates with staff and faculty to organize and oversee the annual cremations

    + Prepares cremation forms

    + Accurately and efficiently manages the disposition of cremations, such as collection, shipment and interment

    + Coordinates quarterly meetings of the Anatomical Specimen Quality Assurance Team, including scheduling, preparing, and sending out the agenda and related reports, leading discussions, preparing notes and overseeing follow-up on action items

     

    Administrative responsibilities

     

    + Plans and oversees the annual WBP Memorial Service

    + Oversees the scheduling of the GAL (Gross Anatomy Lab) in EL (East Lansing) for all users

    + Works with administrative team on invoicing processes (providing documentation for lab time and specimen use, working with fiscal officer on the rate request process and responding to the questions from the controllers office)

    + Documents WBP expenses and revenues

    + Updates the WBP forms, brochure and website

    + Maintains and updates the records of Institutions with anatomical material on loan

    + Develops and maintains updated EHS procedural documentation

    + As Principal Supervisor with EHS coordinates the annual lab inspection and air quality testing for compliance and safety

    + Collaborates and consults with the faculty Director and Department administrators to develop policies and procedures as it pertains to Division of Anatomy use of WBP material and lab usage

    + Orders supplies and equipment

    + Collaborates with IPF for repairs, construction projects, etc.

    + Coordinates with MSU Police to oversee GAL security in EL, including authorization for security card reader access changes as well as dates and times to activate electronic security system

    + Provides orientation for medical and undergraduate students

    Supervisory responsibilities

    + Oversees the hiring, training and supervision of the licensed mortician and lab monitors in EL

    + Provides ongoing consultation to staff at satellite campuses

    + Approves time

    Minimum Requirements

    Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four year degree program such as Bachelor's in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or Social Science; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in business or public contact; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license.

    Desired Qualifications

    Experience working in a medical school environment and with medical records; experience working in Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet software; experience with database development and maintenance; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
