The Director of IT Ancillary Applications at Baystate Health plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless integration and optimization of ancillary systems that support key clinical functions such as surgical services, enterprise imaging, radiology, cardiology, pharmacy, and laboratory applications. By providing strategic leadership and technical expertise, this role ensures that these essential systems align with Baystate Health’s mission to improve the health of our communities every day with quality and compassion. Through collaboration with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders, the Director works to enhance system performance and interoperability, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes, safety, and efficiency across the healthcare continuum.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Provides leadership for all supported departments that assist end-users in the delivery of patient care in support of clinical quality and safety.
2. Leads and/or participates in various committees and serves as an advocate for the use of information technology in the supported departments and helps define innovative solutions as they relate to the strategic plan.
3. Develops strategies based on needs assessments to optimize technology and information.
4. Serves as the escalation contact for all supported departments and works with operations to help develop and use information systems.
5. Develops and manages positive relationships with Clinical/Operational partners to understand business needs and ensure alignment of technology solutions.
6. Gains the support of departmental personnel and leadership regarding application and financial priorities.
7. Provides expertise on the design, implementation, and evaluation of information technology and the impact on clinical and business processes.
8. Directs and oversees multifaceted clinical, financial, and/or operational projects, ensuring project milestones are met and projects are delivered within budget. Oversees large-scale electronic health record system enhancements and upgrades.
9. Supervises and/or conducts workflow assessments to recommend process improvement strategies before and after the deployment of technology.
10. Explains the value of healthcare technology and educates stakeholders on best practices to empower informed decision-making.
11. Collaborates with leadership and stakeholders to advance quality management and evidence-based practice measurement.
12. Leads, communicates, applies, and validates effective information technology best practice standards and processes.
13. Manages operational impacts of service disruptions effectively, ensuring ongoing patient care and operations through implementation of established downtime procedures.
14. Supervises managers and analysts who plan, implement, maintain, and evaluate systems.
15. Coordinates, leads, and develops the skills of project team members to efficiently meet project goals and deadlines in alignment with the project management office.
16. Ensures policies and procedures pertinent to the department are updated.
17. Oversees, with the assistance of human resources, the recruiting, hiring, counseling, appraising, and terminating employees.
18. Identifies personnel development needs, provides training opportunities, and conducts annual reviews for employees, promoting staff retention and career development.
19. Oversees onboarding and continuous education programs to enhance the skills of existing staff and encourage career development.
20. Develops the department’s annual operating budget and identifies capital budget requirements.
21. Maintains current knowledge of legal standards, regulatory standards, and standards of practice to assure that information systems support compliance.
22. Facilitates and fosters strategic partnerships that align with the Baystate Health strategy.
23. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or requested
Required Education:
Bachelor of Science in Business, Computer Science or a related field
Preferred Education:
Master's degree in Business or Healthcare Administration, or Management Information Syst
Required Education:
10-15 years of comparable computing experience inclusive of a minimum of four years of progressive information systems management experience.
Preferred Education:
Experience with IT consulting in healthcare, or with an HIS vendor, is a plus.
Proven experience implementing and optimizing EHR systems, in a healthcare setting.
Experience in lieu of education accepted with Associates degree and 10-15yrs of experience with IT consulting in healthcare or with an HIS vendor.
