ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

POSITION OVERVIEW
Urban Male Success Programs provides personal, social, academic and professional support for underrepresented groups, specifically African American andUrban Male Success Programs provides personal, social, academic and professional support for underrepresented groups, specifically African American and Latino males at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. These services are provided through two programs, My Brothers Keeper (MBK) and the Urban Male Initiative (UMI).
Reporting directly to the Dean of Students, the Director of Urban Male Student Success Programs (UMSSP) is responsible for providing vision, oversight and management of the department. The Director will:
+ Provide supervision and support for:
+ **My Brothers Keeper (MBK)**
+ **Urban Male Initiatives (UMI)**
+ Hire, supervise and develop full-time professional and support staff
+ Develop and manage the Urban Male Student Success Programs budget and oversees the management of the budgets of the programs that make up Urban Male Student Success Programs
+ Develop strategic plans with guidance of the Advisory Committees for both the MBK and UNI programs, internal and external community partners.
+ Manage the daily operations of all **U** **MSSP** spaces
+ Coordinates advocacy for populations served by UMSSP
+ Manages the assessment activities for UMSSP programs
+ Ensures that UMSSP programming, policies and procedures support the development of a strong, equitable and just John Jay community.
+ Serve as a senior member of the Dean of Students’ leadership team
+ Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience required.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Earned master’s degree in a related field,
+ A demonstrated record of progressive supervisory experience preferred.
+ Experience developing and managing leadership development programs and/or peer mentor programs.
+ Experience developing and managing affinity group programs.
+ Experience collaborating with academic and student support departments/programs.
+ Experience planning and managing departmental budgets that include a variety of funding sources (Tax-levy funds; student fee generated funds: foundation/donor funds)
+ Grant writing and management experience a plus.
+ Must have excellent critical thinking, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to use discretionary judgment, excellent problem solving, leadership, time management, budget management and presentation skills.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Directs planning, program development, and administration to support access, retention, multicultural, and other student affairs objectives.
- Develops plans for, and leads a student development services unit which comprises a variety of services and programs
- Collaborates with academic affairs professionals and other in supporting retention and building a comprehensive learning environment that fosters the intellectual, psychological, social, leadership and recreational development of a diverse student population
- Assists senior management in providing leadership, developing policy, conducting strategic planning, and representing student affairs in various professional activities
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the portfolio of student services in supporting divisional and College-wide goals; oversees data collection, tracking, and reporting systems
- Manages fiscal and human resources; may oversee grant management activities for selected programs
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$107,789 - $115,333
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
