Description
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Staff Research Associate I supports research on mitochondrial DNA mutations by conducting experiments, developing and characterizing transgenic mouse models, and assisting with mouse colony management. Additional responsibilities include maintaining detailed lab records, managing lab supplies and purchases, and ensuring compliance with lab safety protocols.
The ideal candidate brings experience in DNA isolation techniques, digital and quantitative PCR, and basic mouse handling, with the adaptability and resourcefulness to support evolving research needs.
Salary: $26.52 - $31.63/hour
Qualifications
Required:
+ Degree in Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience/training
+ A minimum of 12 months experience in digital PCR quantification of mitochondrial DNA.
+ Skill in performing various DNA purifications & manipulations.
+ Ability to be resourceful to learn new methods and protocols and the ability to be adaptable to these and to current laboratory situations.
+ Ability to keep precise, clear laboratory records.
+ Skill to operate computer to include word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, database maintenance (Excel, MS Word, scanner, etc... )
+ Knowledge of university research and lab safety protocols & policies.
+ Knowledge of mitochondrial biology & genetics.
Preferred:
+ Experience in laboratory safety protocols including proper handling of biohazardous substances (chemicals and infectious agents).
