Job Summary and Qualifications

The Speech Language Pathologist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Language Pathologist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Language Pathologist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.

What you will do in this role:

+ Complete bedside swallow evaluations, provide dysphagia therapy for rehabilitating swallow function and make recommendations for the most appropriate diet consistency for patient’s specific needs for patients in the intensive care setting with a focus in the NICU.

+ Provide education classes to new nurses in the area of feeding NICU infants and other fragile infants.

+ Collaborate with case management and social work for directing patient care and discharge planning.

+ Assess swallowing function of patients through Modified Barium Swallow Studies.

+ Assess and treat patients in the NICU, PICU and Hem/Onc settings.

+ Collaborate and co-treat with different disciplines, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and doctors to aid in patient progression and provide comprehensive care.

+ Document using computerized system: Meditech

What qualifications you will need:

+ Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

+ Speech Pathologist licensure

+ NICU experience and competency in swallow studies for NICU patients and pediatrics

+ Masters Degree
