The Histotechnologist maintains current professional knowledge and skills to perform testing as a Histologist in the Clinical Laboratory, including fluid cytology preparation.

* Responsible for producing high quality slides in an efficient manner consistent with laboratory and hospital policy.

* Performs special staining, frozen sections, gross examination and assistance and autopsy assistance.Assists the pathologist with post-mortem examination and collection of specimens.

* Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.

* Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.

*Minimum Education*

Associate’s degree X Preferred □ Required

Degree in Histology preferred.

Exception: Meets requirements under the ASCP Grandfather clause, certified prior to 2004.
