Required Minimum Qualifications:• One year of experience as an Extension Program Assistant I or equivalent work experience, or Any combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired which totals one year. • Requires ability to travel to various locations in order to conduct extension education programs.
Special Required QualificationsBilingual in English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of or experience with meal planning, nutrition, and/or food preparation
Experience presenting to groups of individuals
Experience with recruiting clients and/or sales
Experience with technology
Knowledge of local community agencies and resources that help families and individuals in need

If so, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is currently seeking candidates for an Extension Program Assistant II - Nutrition Educator for Woodbury County!
Because this role requires on-site education, access to reliable transportation is necessary as some locations are not accessible by public transportation.
This position requires someone to be bilingual in English and Spanish. This includes the ability to read, write, speak, and understand Spanish.
A few of the main responsibilities for this individual will include:
+ Community Engagement: Network with agencies across the community to identify and recruit eligible program participants.
+ Educational Programming: Utilize established curricula to conduct educational programs aimed at promoting healthy eating habits and physical activity. Programs will also focus on building skills related to cooking, food safety, and budget-friendly grocery shopping.
+ Adaptation and Organization: Adapt lessons and materials as necessary to meet the needs of specific audiences. Organize special program groups and events to maximize community outreach.
+ Assistance in Program Planning: Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating educational programs tailored to the identified needs of the community.
+ Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a team of professionals to achieve program objectives and foster community partnerships.
This is a part-time position at 30 hours/week. This position will primarily be working Monday-Friday, day hours with some evening and weekend hours.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepares, presents, and adapts lessons and other educational materials to address specific issues of individuals or small groups.
• Adapts curriculum and education materials within expectations for us in a variety of teaching modes (including virtual platforms) and to suit participant needs and skill level.
• Meets with organized groups such as service clubs, senior citizens, and community clubs to present informational programs.
• Organizes special groups, activities, and events such as a segment of an educational program for specifically identified audiences.
• Maintains appropriate records of participants’ progress and prepares reports.
• Extends information through a variety of methods such as demonstrations, pamphlets, seminars, video conferences, phone calls, emails, etc. to clientele within specifically identified audiences.
• Recruits program participants and volunteers.
• Participates in regular conferences and training as scheduled either in-person or virtually.
• Decides on meeting facilities (either in-person or virtually), sets dates and times for classes, collects, and organizes educational materials, and makes appointments with participants. Adapts educational strategies and material choices for an online format as necessary.
• May assist professional staff members in the training of newly employed assistants, volunteer leaders, and leadership committees.
• Maintains confidentiality or records and participant information.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Knowledge of issues and facts relating to the educational program.
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic skills, i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractional numbers, decimals, etc.
• Knowledge of human development.
• Skill in adapting program materials to address special needs of the audience.
• Ability to read, understand and execute oral and written instructions.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to communicate with a variety of people.
• Ability to transport educational materials necessary for the job to the seminar site.
• Ability to assist with the training of others.
• Ability to use time management skills.
• Ability to learn and use virtual platforms for meetings or lessons.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
