    The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency at the University of Miami/UHealth is currently seeking a full time Organ Allocation Coordinator 1. The Organ Allocation Coordinator 1 (OAC) coordinates the allocation of gifted organs to transplant centers, aiding in ensuring continuous patient safety assessment and improvement for donation and transplantation. The Organ Allocation Coordinator 1 (OAC) may act as the primary liaison with the transplant centers, research facilitates, hospital personnel, and recovery site personnel in all Donor Service Area hospitals within the confines Broward, Dade, Collier, Monroe and Plam beach and St. Lucie counties and the commonwealth of the Bahamas (over 90 hospitals). The OAC is responsible for all activities related to the allocation and utilization of organs from donors. Including, organ allocation for transplant and research, OR timing, travel logistics, communication, and documentation.

    CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

    + Coordinate the staff in the operating room for local procurements and abroad (i.e., requiring flight transportation) with clinical recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation, and undertakes extensive communications with transplant center, according to established guidelines.

    + Exercise clinical judgment and a good fundamental knowledge of organ viability to allow for efficient and effective organ placement practices for transplant and research in accordance with OPTN requirements.

    + Conduct organ placement process, coordinating clinical resources requested to optimize organs recovered for transplant and research in adherence with OPTN policy.

    + Maintains current knowledge and enforces legal requirements of organ donation.

    + Maintain communication between hospitals, outside agencies, professional colleagues, and the general public.

    + Manage a high volume of incoming and outbound calls with customers by phone.

    + Build natural rapport and provide accurate and detailed documentation of accounts to ensure proper follow-up.

    + Facilitate the transportation and laboratory notification for blood and tissue samples sent for donor testing as well as the transportation of recovered organs when necessary.

    + Familiar with all medical aspects of organ donation and bring any questions to the attention of the administrator involved.

    + Has a basic knowledge of the donor medical requirements and contraindications.

    + Accurately collects, records, and maintains clinical records of donors and recipients as required by the program in accordance with UNOS and CMS standards and requirements.

    + Accountable for assigned procurement equipment and supplies.

    + Maintains a current list of contact numbers, of all appropriate UM LAORA/Transplant/Research/Transportation personnel and updates list as needed.

    + This list will be utilized to maintain up to date resources and to contact appropriate personnel based on logistical knowledge of organ donation/recovery process in a timely manner.

    + Keeps UM LAORA Clinical Operations Director and Organ Allocation and Recovery Managers apprised of all local and import organ activity

    + Responds to administrative duties to include internal and external communication, process improvement projects and quality assurance tasks in a timely manner as defined by UM LAORA leadership. Maintain current knowledge of organ procurement and allocation protocols and UNOS policy changes by participating in UNOS education offerings, clinical conferences and continuing medical education.

    + Design, facilitate and engage in clinical presentations, education and knowledge sharing with team members, physicians, nurses, and other stakeholders in the donation process.

    + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    Education:

    Bachelor's Degree preferred.

     

    Associate's Degree with a concentration in healthcare field or related and/or possesses 2-3 years' experience in a clinical environment such as EMT, Paramedic, RN, LPN, Surgical Technician or equivalent OPO experience.

    Experience:

    Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

     

    Prior clinical call center experience preferred.

     

    Direct experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.

     

    Current driver’s license required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

    + Must be able to simultaneously perform multiple complex processes and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.

    + Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.

    + Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills

    + Proficient with Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, and use of a telephone system, including VOIP and multiline systems.

    + Ability to travel his/her personal automobile if needed.

    + Requires excellent interpersonal skills and clear written and verbal communication skills.

    + Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

    + Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

    + Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
