The Identity Security team safeguards Microsoft Entra and Microsoft products by preventing, detecting, mitigating, and responding to security threats. We seek a **Principal Security Engineer** with expertise in Security Risk Engineering to drive our continued world-class risk management program. This position requires a strong passion for technology, growth engineering, data-informed decision making, partner engagement, and most of all: customer focus. Responsibilities
+ Blending security principles with engineering practices, proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout systems, software, and infrastructure lifecycles.
+ Collaborating closely with Engineering teams, documenting and ranking risks, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring prioritization of development work to reduce company-wide risks.
+ Translating risks into actionable activities, enabling engineering teams to execute with clarity and influenceroad mapseffectively.
+ Diving deep into data sources, analyzing patterns of current and emerging risks for informed decision-making.
+ Evaluating documented risks, enhancing clarity, and identifying missing risks or potential gaps.
+ Engaging with Security Engineers, strengthening understanding of Identity threat landscapes while integrating insights from across the company to refine risk documentation.
+ Advancing risk measurement methodologies, tracking reduction progress, andshowcasingwins to leadership.
+ Driving tooling requirements, supporting company-wide risk management processes.
+ Collaborating with the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer (dCISO) for Identity, ensuring alignment and strategic execution.Our team values diversity and strives to hire individuals with varied experiences and perspectives. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
+ 7+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cybersecurity, and/or anomaly detection
+ OR Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field.
+ Proficiency in threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, and security risk documentation, ensuring clarity and strategic risk management.
+ Expertise in Security Risk Engineering, with a strong foundation in security principles, risk assessment methodologies, and mitigation strategies.
+ Experience in collaboration with engineering teams, senior leadership, and security experts.
+ Experience with engineering roadmaps, ensuring security risks are effectively addressed in development priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Proven ability to collaborate with security engineers, refine risk management strategies, and influence security roadmaps. Deep knowledge of identity security, authentication protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML), and adversarial research methodologies.
+ Strategic Leadership & Collaboration – Experience working with executive stakeholders to define security frameworks. Ability to engage cross-functional teams, articulate business needs for productimprovement, and deliver effective communications to technical and non-technical audiences.
Security Research IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
