    The Position

    Public Safety Dispatchers perform technical communications work in the operation of a district, central, or statewide communications center including but not limited to: providing assistance to law enforcement units in both routine and emergency situations; dispatching enforcement units and other emergency mobile units from a computerized dispatch center; researching various criminal justice records systems and transmitting the required information; placing telephone calls for officials and registered vehicle owners at accident scenes; providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies as requested; maintaining a variety of logs and records; and preparing statistical summaries on center activities.

     

    Incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept and function as a shift supervisor over lower-level Public Safety Dispatcher positions to include performance evaluations, work performance standards, work assignment and review, scheduling training, and discipline.

     

    The Law Enforcement Dispatch Supervisor (Public Safety Dispatcher 4) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, coordination, and operational efficiency of the Nevada Department of Wildlife's (NDOW) law enforcement and field operations. This position supervises the delivery of centralized statewide dispatch services to NDOW's game wardens and contracted federal law enforcement partners. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining operational readiness of the dispatch center, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, and upholding specialized dispatch protocols vital to covert and task force law enforcement activities. This supervisory position is essential to maintaining 17 hours per day of coverage (6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.) across 10-hour shifts in the Reno-based dispatch center. The center, while not a 911 PSAP, provides law enforcement support across a wide geographic region, requiring coordination with field officers in remote locations, including during sensitive or dangerous operations. The supervisor ensures continuity of service by providing direct dispatch support during staffing vacancies and scheduled leave, which is vital to uninterrupted field communications and officer safety. In addition to law enforcement functions, the dispatch center supports general NDOW field operations and aviation coordination, including helicopter flights, requiring a broad understanding of both law enforcement and non-law enforcement field needs.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

     

    Three years of experience in law enforcement communications including control of ten or more units and the use of State and national criminal justice information systems; OR one year of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher III in Nevada State service.

     

    Special Notes

     

    Applicants must meet the minimum typing speed established by the agency at the time of recruitment.

    Special Requirements

    Positions require a State of Nevada/FBI background check.

     

    Positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
