We are seeking a Senior Consultant specializing in Financial Crimes Risk Management and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) to support a top-tier U.S. banking client. This consultant will focus on conducting complex financial crimes reviews with a strong emphasis on cryptocurrency risk management, onboarding assessments, and regulatory compliance. The engagement addresses a backlog of high-risk crypto client assessments requiring effective challenges and controls evaluation. The ideal candidate will have deep domain knowledge in AML/KYC/CFT compliance specific to digital assets, as well as hands-on investigative experience in tracing crypto transactions across blockchains.
Essential Duties:
• Conduct Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews on high-risk cryptocurrency clients, including onboarding and ongoing monitoring.
• Analyze crypto-related transactions and blockchain activity to detect signs of money laundering, fraud, and other financial crimes.
• Investigate suspicious activity by tracing crypto asset movements across blockchains and analyzing transaction patterns.
• Develop, implement, and refine transaction monitoring frameworks specific to crypto risk typologies.
• Perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Know Your Customer (KYC), and Source of Funds (SoF) analysis to meet regulatory expectations.
• Prepare and submit clear, well-supported Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and respond to internal and external regulatory inquiries.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including compliance, legal, risk, and first-line business units, to address crypto-related financial crime risks.
• Stay current on evolving regulatory standards (e.g., FATF Travel Rule, FinCEN guidance, BSA/AML) and ensure compliance with both U.S. and global expectations.
• Utilize blockchain forensics tools (e.g., Chainalysis, CipherTrace, Elliptic) to conduct investigations and provide actionable intelligence.
• Draft high-quality investigative reports, documentation, and risk mitigation recommendations for internal stakeholders and regulators.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certification (e.g., CAMS, CFE) preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in financial crime compliance or investigations, preferably in a financial institution, crypto exchange, or consulting environment.
• In-depth knowledge of AML, KYC, CFT, and sanctions compliance practices, with direct experience in high-risk customer reviews.
• Expertise in crypto/blockchain investigations and the use of blockchain analytics tools (e.g., Chainalysis, CipherTrace, Elliptic).
• Understanding of crypto regulatory frameworks, including U.S. and global requirements (FATF, FinCEN, SEC).
Skills and Job-Specific Competencies:
• Strong investigative, analytical, and decision-making skills under pressure.
• Excellent written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to produce detailed SARs and investigative reports.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
