Join Our Team as a Full-Time Respiratory Clinic Instructor!
The Respiratory Clinic Instructor coordinates Respiratory Care education/research/CQI activities and programs in the following areas: orientation, staff in-service education, new equipment and techniques, staff CPR certification/recertification, clinical training for student therapist, coordinate clinical shadowing for potential Respiratory Care students and staff.
Responsibilities:
+ Recommend to the school director, acceptance, retention or dismissal of students in the school.
+ Provide and coordinate with Nursing Education and School of Nursing all in-service classes presented to nurses and nursing students pertaining to Respiratory Care.
+ Maintain communication with schools and organizations on local, regional and national level.
+ Observe and evaluate the students' clinical performance.
+ Solve any intra/interdepartmental problem, which may occur within the assigned area of responsibility.
+ Develop and coordinate of staff training programs that include learning objectives, methods, teaching strategies and evaluation.
+ Review current journals, evidence based practice and update departmental knowledge and techniques being used for respiratory care.
+ Perform as a therapist III or II when clinical needs arise.
+ Complete special projects and duties as assigned by the Director or Supervisor other than those listed above to include but not limited to implementation of a CQI project, and/or implementation of clinical research.
+ Maintain the lines of communication with ordering physicians to preserve a high level of patient care.
+ Assume the responsibilities of a Therapist IV/Supervisor in special situations as approved by the Director.
+ Assess patients for appropriateness of care secondary to a direct order or in conjunction with protocols and Continuous Quality Improvement.
+ Assist with Respiratory Care educational records and activities.
+ Follow and enforce all hospital and department policies.
+ Maintain all student records including performance evaluations.
+ Videotape in-service classes when applicable.
+ Complete all records and reports as required.
+ Coordinate and update a comprehensive orientation program for new personnel.
+ Plan and coordinate the learning experiences in the clinical setting for student therapists.
+ Promote a better understanding of the scope of practice and methods/techniques of respiratory care through educational programs presented to medical students, residents and physicians.
+ Participate in the coordination of scheduling needs for the department whether for staffing or departmental resources.
+ Communicate with physicians, nurses and other hospital personnel regarding the care of the patients.
+ Participate in the evaluation and purchase of new equipment.
+ Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree from an accredited respiratory program required.
+ 3 years experience as Respiratory III or equivalent clinical/educational experience.
+ In addition, must complete 2 of the following to maintain the status of Respiratory Clinical Instructor. These activities MUST be completed within two weeks of the EPR review date:
+ Delivery of at least two 30 minute presentations or lectures annually.
+ Participation in the revision of at least 2 department policies and procedures and/or the creation of one new policy and procedure annually.
+ Participation in one departmental Quality Improvement process/review annually.
+ Active membership of RT Schools Advisory Board.
+ Participation in multidisciplinary committees.
+ Completion of pre-approved project, which involves a department process or development that includes a schedule to document progress and a date for completion.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI)
+ Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
