Key Responsibilities
Aid in the establishment and management of packaging suppliers and related processes and procedures.
Develop test plans and perform laboratory testing on products, packages, and packaging materials.
Support the Product Life Cycle (PLC) process by defining Design For Transportability (DFT) requirements and influencing product design.
Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving activities.
Develop and maintain global packaging standards and specifications for Applied Materials and its Supply Base.
Provide advanced training and support to Packaging Engineer III.
Performs other duties as assigned. Duties will vary according to the project in progress and/or the specific goals of the department in which the incumbent works. Duties may include leading team solutions to problems identified throughout the development and lifecycle of a product.

At Applied Materials’ CTO office, we are developing optical interconnect solutions for the next generation hyperscale computing and AI/ML. You will be working with a highly capable international team to develop advanced photonics packaging solution, with a focus on optical alignment.
You will also be working with external partners on micro-optics, fiber, fiber array assembly, optical connectors, as well as contract manufacturers to development precision alignment assembly solution for large scale fiber array that would meet the shoreline bandwidth requirement for the next generation communication and computing need.
You will be heavily involved in optical packaging design, and process development with a special focus on fiber, fiber array, and optical coupling alignment technology. This is a technology space that has been a challenge for the industry for several decades. You will have to be able to understand the existing solutions, and innovate beyond the state-of-the-art technology that can revolutionize the industry.
Successful Candidates For This Position Will Have
MS and Ph.D in optics, material science or mechanical engineering is desired. Industrial experience in optical communication industries is required.
5-10yrs of hands-on experience on optical packaging, FAU assembly and optical connectors. You should be familiar with various types of optical fiber, connectors, and their application in communication industry.
Experience and working knowledge Zemax or other optical design software, hands on experience on fiber optical product, active alignment, and optical testing. You also need have working knowledge of laser, detector, isolator, and other optical components / instruments.
Be able to work in a high paced, dynamic product development environment.
Appreciation for Structured Problem Solving
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
