Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP1) – Spatial Transcriptomics in Neuroscience
Fang Lab, Stanford University
Website:https://fanglabstanford.org.
The Fang Lab at Stanford University is seeking a full-time Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP1) to join our team in advancing spatial transcriptomics research. We are an interdisciplinary lab studying how spatially organized distinct cell types in the brain communicate to generate healthy brain function and contribute to brain disorders across diverse model systems including C. elegans, mice, and humans.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other lab members to support and conduct research on cell-cell communication in the nervous system, particularly in the context of rodent models and/or brain tumors. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in cutting-edge molecular, imaging, and computational technologies, with the potential for co-authorship in high-impact publications.
Duties Include*:
+ Plan and execute experiments related to defined research projects.
+ Independently perform molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., smFISH, immunostaining, cloning, qPCR), animal surgery, and microscopy.
+ Analyze and interpret experimental results using existing protocols and tools.
+ Maintain detailed experimental records and assist in data presentation and manuscript preparation.
+ Stay current with relevant scientific literature and apply new techniques as needed.
+ Support day-to-day lab operations including ordering supplies, maintaining lab stocks, and fulfilling compliance and safety requirements.
+ Assist in training new lab members and fostering a collaborative research environment.
_*Other duties may also be assigned._
About the Fang Lab
Our lab develops imaging-, sequencing-, and machine learning-based approaches to understand how distinct, spatially organized brain cell types communicate and how this communication shapes behavior, cognition, and disease. We are part of a vibrant interdisciplinary research community at Stanford, with close ties to the Departments of Neurosurgery, Genetics, and the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Prior experience with imaging, tissue dissections, harvesting, cryosectioning, and histology/imaging is highly desired.
+ Prior experience with single cell analysis, spatial transcriptomics analysis, python, R is highly preferable.
+ Prior experience with a range of experimental techniques, including cell culturing, molecular biology methods (e.g., Western blotting, immunostaining, qPCR, in vitro transcription, reverse transcription, DNA/RNA purification) is highly desired.
+ Prior lab experience in molecular biology, cell culture, animal handling, or microscopy.
+ Interest in neurobiology, genomics, or bioinformatics.
