Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Senior Project Manager (SPM) will lead the preparation, implementation and evaluation of two major initiatives with potential to improve community health: the Joy of Literacy Initiative (JOLI) and Medical Legal Partnership (MLP). The JOLI program aims to improve kindergarten readiness by promoting the use of early literacy tools in the preschool classroom and at home. The MLP program provides free civil legal services to address Health Harming Legal Needs. Through project oversight, program development, operational support and close collaboration with internal teams and community partners, the SPM plays a vital role in supporting program growth, evaluating impact, and driving continuous improvement across both initiatives.
The SPM will have the opportunity to participate as a member of the Hoekelman Center (www.hoekelmancenter.org) team on strategic development of various other projects and functions such as PLC (Physician Links with the Community), CARE (Community health and Advocacy Resident Education).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Independently and with latitude for judgment, acting with accountability for overall success of the projects, the SPM will be responsible for:
+ Project Management & Leadership
+ Oversee and manage projects, ensuring coordination, accountability from team members, and timely completion of project-related tasks within pre-determined deadlines.
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for project-related matters and team communication.
+ Promote evidence-based practices and encourage innovative, solution-oriented approaches to project initiatives.
+ Provide regular updates to leadership and ensure transparency on project status.
+ Program Development & Evaluation
+ Design and implement community feedback systems and evaluation tools to measure program impact.
+ Develop strategies and training plans to support program growth and improvement.
+ Support research efforts through IRB coordination, grant writing, and data analysis.
+ Conduct background research to inform planning and decision-making processes.
Operational & Communication Support
+ Manage budgets and work with the admin team to submit reimbursements while being mindful of up-to-date business processes.
+ Oversee supply ordering, inventory, and logistics with internal and external partners.
+ Create and maintain program calendars, meeting documentation, and visual reports.
+ Support internal and external communications, including presentations and materials.
Other Duties as Assigned:
+ As part of a small and collaborative team, all members are occasionally expected to step in and support one another across various responsibilities.
+ When tasks require significant time or attention, the Director will provide guidance on prioritization and delegation.
+ The team also supports a dynamic portfolio of 10–20 smaller pilot or incubator projects alongside larger, ongoing programs.
+ Staff are expected to maintain general awareness of these initiatives and contribute insights or support as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Master’s degree in public health, Public Administration, or similar field.
+ Experience managing large project budgets and complex resource allocation
+ Experience with design, planning, evaluation or oversight of community health improvement projects.
+ Experience with project coordination.
+ Knowledge of IRB standards and procedures.
+ Experience working with non- profit organizations.
+ Experience with programs for children and adolescents.
+ Experience working with government agencies including school districts, and/or foundations.
+ Experience with grants, grant writing and/or grant reviewing.
+ Background in literacy, Medical Legal Partnership and/or community based participatory research.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Strong skills in organizing events, managing data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Detail-oriented, organized with the ability to work independently.
+ Works effectively with others and to accept responsibility for confidential and sensitive matters required
+ Excellent communication (written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills
+ Passion for early literacy, evidence-based prevention, and improving positive social determinants of health.
