Position Title: **Manager, Clinical and Professional Development**

Purpose: The manager of clinical and professional development is a member of the MercyOne Genesis leadership team and is
accountable for advancing and maintaining clinical and non-clinical competence, enhancing professional nursing practice,
and supporting achievement of career goals, building on the educational and experiential bases of clinical colleagues across
continuum for the ultimate objective of ensuring delivery of efficient, effective, safe, quality, and compassionate patient
care. Will utilize the scope and standards of practice for nursing professional development in accordance with the American
Nurses Association Score and Standards of Nursing Administration. Will cultivates an environment that promotes lifelong
learning by supporting the development of effective, quality, innovative, creative, and fun continuing education activities.
He/she supports a shared leadership philosophy and advances the professional practice model for patient care services.
Ensures an effective educational structure, inclusive decision-making, and creative and supportive personnel policies,
professional models of care that promote excellent patient services, collegial interdisciplinary relationships, and
professional development opportunities. The manager facilitates interactive management and the development of strong
relationships among nursing personnel and with others throughout the organization and the community, promoting a
professional environment.
In partnership with the leadership team, is accountable for the environment in which patient care is delivered, enhances
the practice environment, encouraging staff accountability for their own practice. The manager is responsible for the
strategic and operational leadership of the defined service area(s) and collaborates with the executive and others in
organizational planning, innovation, and evaluation.
Report To: CNO, MercyOne Genesis Aledo Medical Center
Supervisory Responsibility: Large Group Responsibility (Multiple Shift): The job requires direct supervision of more than 12 employees.
Job duties include the full range of supervisory activities such as hiring, training, assigning, monitoring and
assessing work, promoting etc. Work involves ensuring that human resource related decisions are compatible
with the organization's policies, practices and direction. Incumbent has multiple shift responsibilities for
staff.
Materials Responsibility: Very High: Work requires an extremely high degree of responsibility for materials resources. Examples of
resources could include the operating and capital budget for the entire organization. The employee has
extensive authority and control over these resources. The difficulty, variety and depth of problems associated
with these material
Key Relationships Co-workers/Health System Employees, Outside Agencies/Other Health Care
Providers, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Vendors/Clients,
Auditors/Review Agencies, Physicians/Medical Office Staff
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in health-related field must be obtained within 3 years of hire.
Field of Study: Nursing
Licensure/Registration: Registered Nurse in Iowa/Illinois; Registered Nurse in Illinois/Iowa within 1 year.
Experience: More than 5 years’ experience in nursing and 3 years leadership experience.
InterpersonalSkills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or
stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a
high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations.
Working Condition: There are little or no adverse environmental conditions to consider.
