Job Summary and Qualifications
1. Prepares and oversees clinical/anatomical specimens for histological evaluation by a Pathologist. This process requires competency in the appropriate laboratory computer systems, embedding of specimens, sectioning blocks for slide preparation, and routine, special and immune-histochemical staining procedures. Ensures acceptability.
2. Ensures collection of statistical data for required monthly and yearly reporting to meet regulatory compliance [CAP, JCHO, State, Federal]. Abides by and models performance with policies and procedures compliance. Updates policy/procedures & workflows to meet the needs of current business operations.
3. Evaluates and attempts new methods for improving services.
4. Performs and directs special procedures including: frozen sections, send outs, special stains and immunohistochemistry stains. Practices prescribed methods of collection and identification of specimens; troubleshoots specimen problems.
5. Organizes and plans workload to achieve maximum efficiency in reporting results. Adjusts staffing to workloads. Manages stressful situations as they occur, maintaining professional demeanor and cooperative partnership with others.
6. Maintains a neat well-kept environmentally compliant work area.
7. Models infection control practices, hand washing, wearing personal protective equipment, for protection of self and others.
8. Evaluates & records QC data, documents incidents when results or patient care are not within defined limits.
9. Reports non-compliant events through current Safety Event Reporting as required.
10. Oversees and/or performs and records daily maintenance procedures on equipment as required, assists in troubleshooting of equipment as necessary to insure proper operations for high quality test performance.
11. Maintains service agreements on all equipment. Submits requests/recommendations to Admin Lab Director regarding equipment.
12. Oversees and maintains awareness of supply stock and informs appropriate personnel of supply shortages before they are depleted.
13. Oversee and/or participate in validations, correlations as necessary and instrument start up and maintenance.
14. Delegates tasks as necessary.

1. Manages special projects to include developing a plan, coordinating necessary resources, setting project timelines, keeping Manager informed of progress, and completing project within established time limits.
2. Develops, implements, evaluates programs for section/department orientation, competency and training; validates competency of co- workers or subordinates.
3. Attends Leadership Skills courses; puts new knowledge, understanding, or skill to practical use on the job; furthers learning by using newly acquired knowledge or skills to use on a consistent basis.
4. Supports the mission and vision of the Memorial Health University Health System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.
5. Understands and is committed to helping the Memorial Health University Health System and its associated facilities achieve its goals under the MHUHS Financial Performance Plan.
6. Must learn, comply with, and enforce System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties.
7. Adheres to the MHUHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.
8. Completes other duties as assigned.
9. Interacts regularly with Pathologist/Medical Lab Director regarding pathology cases, pathology operations.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Bachelors Degree
+ Associate Degree
+ Histotechnician, or Histotechnologist
+ Three years of relevant job experience and one year of supervisor experience required
