    Position Description

    The Emergency Telecommunications Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of personnel receiving and dispatching emergency calls or requests for emergency services at the Communications Center. Employee also assists Emergency Telecommunications Manager with management, supervision and operations of Emergency Communication Center.

    Typical Duties

    + Performs various supervisory duties.

    + Assigns and reviews work of Emergency Telecommunications Officers and Emergency Telecommunications Trainers.

    + Approves leave requests.

    + Counsels with and corrects employees as needed.

    + Evaluates employee performance.

    + Trains and/or establishes training requirements for employees.

    + Performs various administrative duties.

    + Reviews telephone traffic data to determine assignment of resources.

    + Interprets rules, policies, and procedures for staff members.

    + Assists in developing and providing basic and in-service training for Communications Personnel.

    + Assists Emergency Telecommunications Manager.

    + Conducts tours of Emergency Communication Center as required.

    + Processes complaint results by reviewing and recommending any action to be taken for final disposition.

    + Conducts visual inspections of communications equipment.

    + Implements departmental and/or divisional policies and procedures.

    + Recommends staff improvements where necessary.

    + Writes reports and maintains records.

    + Attends training sessions and re-certification programs as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High School Diploma and four (4) years experience in emergency communications.

     

    *For the purpose of the recruitment, education will be considered in lieu of experience*

     

    Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

     

    *Must attend supervisory training within six months of working in this classification*

    Valid Driver License

     

    National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Query Certification

     

    Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Basic Telecommunicator Certification

     

    Medical Priority – Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) Certification

     

    Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification

     

    Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) Certification

     

    As part of the selection process for the Emergency Telecommunications Supervisor position, candidates will be required to participate in a job-related assessment. This assessment is designed to evaluate key competencies necessary for success in the role, including leadership, decision-making under pressure, communication skills, and knowledge of emergency communication procedures.

     

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
