    Job Description

    Job Title: Assistant Chief of Police- Atlanta

     

    Pay Grade: LN

    Job Summary:

    Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief of Police directs the operations of the department, implements procedures to maintain safety and crime prevention at DBHDD hospitals and locations throughout the state, and ensures that the department is properly staffed.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Create and enforce policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment protecting the life and property of individuals, staff, and visitors to all DBHDD locations.

    • Oversee the daily security operations of the DBHDD law enforcement division and conduct regular meetings to ensure operations and programs are compliant with Georgia laws, local ordinances, and agency policies. Implement directives from the Commissioner or Chief of Staff.

    • Lead and /or manage interdepartmental coordination for successful outcomes: emergency management, crisis coordination, project execution at the direction of the Chief of Police.

    • Oversee risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate potential security threats.

    • Lead incident response efforts, including technical forensic investigations for security incidents at DBHDD locations. Assist local and state law enforcement in criminal investigations precipitated on or around a DBHDD location.

    • Ensure total adherence to DBHDD policies, rules, and regulations by all DBHDD law enforcement and security personnel. Ensure facilities are compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.

    • Collaborate in the development and management of security awareness and training programs for general staff. Ensure law enforcement staff are compliant with Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council standards and regulations.

    • Ensure the communication process with the Georgia law enforcement community is positive and effective.

    • Maintain awareness of industry’s best practices, techniques and standards.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Hires, trains, and develops staff as needed.

    • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of team members.

    • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

    • Handles discipline and terminations of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work in inclement weather

    • Overtime work including evenings and weekends.

    • Ability to walk, run, climb or site for extended period of time.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma/GED, Georgia P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer, and two (2) years of experience in law enforcement management or position equivalent; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower-level Police Sergeant (PSP123) or position equivalent

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, safety management, public administration, risk management or a closely related field.

     

    Five (5) years of management experience in local, state, or federal law enforcement management.

     

    Valid Georgia driver’s license.

     

    Knowledge of current, leading principles and practices of Public Administration, Constitutional Criminal Procedure, and the Criminal Code of Georgia.

     

    Good standing with the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.).

     

    Ga. P.O.S.T Certified Law Enforcement Officer

     

    Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

     

    Ability to maintain current requirements outlined in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Act.
