Summary
This leadership position supports the mission, vision, and values of Rochester Regional Health (RRH) by overseeing clinical and operational excellence of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team within the Cardiac Robotic Surgery Program. The role is a pivotal clinical and administrative leader responsible for the coordination, onboarding, and optimization of APPs across specialty robotic-assisted cardiac procedures. The role directly supports program growth, surgical innovation, and patient-centered excellence in collaboration with the System Executive Medical Director and Vice President/ Chief Administrative Officer. The APP in this position will reflect RRH’s strategic emphasis on advanced surgical technologies, clinical integration, and team-based care. Additionally, this APP will be responsible for supporting quality, safety, credentialing, and research initiatives aligned with national guidelines and evidence-based practice in robotic cardiothoracic surgery and perform Advance Practice Provider lead responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program & Workforce Leadership:
+ Serves as the administrative and clinical leader of the APP team within the Cardiac Robotic Surgery Program.
+ Coordinates APP scheduling, cross-coverage, and optimization of perioperative and inpatient care workflows to ensure high-value care and team productivity.
+ Collaborates with surgical, anesthesia, and perfusion leadership to align APP support with robotic case volume and throughput goals.
+ Assesses and implements APP staffing models in accordance with procedure complexity, case volume, and patient acuity.
+ Leads recruitment, selection, and retention strategies for APPs aligned with the program’s growth trajectory.
+ Supports continuous orientation, mentorship, and professional development of APPs in robotic-assisted cardiac procedures.
Clinical Practice Excellence:
+ Performs Advance Practice Provider lead clinical practice responsibilities.
+ Ensures evidence-based, compassionate care across all touchpoints of the robotic surgical patient experience (pre-op, intra-op, post-op).
+ Partners with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to define APP intraoperative and post-operative protocols, including ICU and step-down transitions.
+ Oversees and maintains APP clinical competencies specific to robotic platforms (e.g., da Vinci Xi) and participates in credentialing activities.
+ Supports the design and implementation of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols tailored to cardiac robotics.
Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement:
+ Collaborates with quality teams to implement and monitor patient safety goals, complication reduction initiatives, and surgical outcome metrics.
+ Facilitates root cause analyses and participates in morbidity and mortality review specific to the robotic cardiac population.
+ Drives continuous improvement through data benchmarking against national robotic cardiac surgery programs (e.g., STS, CTSNet).
Education, Research & Innovation:
+ Supports and coordinates APP training and continuing education in collaboration with robotic vendors and surgical educators.
+ Encourages APP-led or APP-supported research initiatives, including abstracts, poster presentations, and publications.
+ Assists with onboarding of new technology and simulation-based skill development for robotic cardiac procedures.
Regulatory & Compliance:
+ Ensures adherence to all federal, state, and institutional regulations related to scope of APP practice, surgical credentialing, and device use.
+ Collaborates with the Office of Medical Staff Affairs on privileging and regulatory readiness for all APPs.
Financial & Strategic Partnership:
+ Participates in budget planning and cost-containment strategies for the robotic surgery program with a focus on value-based care.
+ Assesses productivity and financial impact of APP contributions and recommends resource reallocation or optimization.
+ Supports grant funding efforts, innovation pilots, and national recognition of RRH’s robotic cardiac program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master of Science in Nursing or Bachelors of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
+ Advanced Practice Provider with current licensure in NYS
+ Nationally Board Certification
+ ACLS and BLS required
EDUCATION:
BS: Physician Assistant (Required)
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
PA-C - Certified Physician Assistant - National Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), RPA - Registered Physician Assistant - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
