Job Title: Packaging Engineer
Job Description
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing new model packaging and supporting existing production operations. This role involves managing approximately 30-40 suppliers, ensuring efficient line side presentation, and implementing design changes. The engineer is tasked with continuous problem-solving to enhance packaging processes.
Responsibilities
+ Manage model launch activities, including new packaging design, development, and approval.
+ Identify areas for improvement in current packaging designs and lead packaging kaizen implementation.
+ Manage individual KPIs in safety, quality, scrap, expendable costs, and model launch packaging development.
+ Calculate and manage returnable packaging for suppliers.
+ Identify areas for process improvement.
+ Resolve daily operational packaging issues by communicating with supply chain stakeholders and coordinating short- and long-term countermeasures.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in Excel, AutoCAD, and Power BI.
+ Experience in manufacturing engineering and mechanical engineering.
+ Knowledge of lean manufacturing practices.
+ Ability to read, interpret, and modify both 2D and 3D engineering drawings using programs like AutoCAD, Inventor, or Catia.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field such as engineering, mathematics, or physics.
+ Manufacturing experience in a design or engineering role, including education, co-op, or internships.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience leading or supporting new model launch through packaging development to meet safety, quality, and cost targets.
+ Experience with KPI management in a production engineering environment.
+ Experience with packaging testing standards such as shape and vibration testing.
+ Experience with mobile packaging for moving products within a manufacturing facility.
+ Experience managing engineering projects through cross-functional collaboration.
+ Experience working with outside vendors and suppliers.
+ Experience using systems for packaging design analysis and cost authorization like VPACS.
Work Environment
The position is located within the Production Control group, responsible for packaging all components arriving at the plant. The role involves hands-on work on the floor throughout the day, supporting various packaging operations such as stamping pallets, dollies, bumpers, and plastics. With approximately 300 suppliers shipping components, teamwork is crucial as part of a team of 12, including 5 engineers, handling over 10,000 parts daily. The role also includes analytical responsibilities.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
