Responsibilities

The Charge Nurse is a registered nurse who provides leadership and direction for a specific nursing unit or shift, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. This role involves coordinating patient assignments, supervising and mentoring nursing staff, managing unit resources, and serving as a liaison between patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The Charge Nurse is responsible for problem-solving, conflict resolution, and ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures, while also promoting a positive and collaborative work environment. Ultimately, the Charge Nurse plays a critical role in optimizing patient outcomes and maintaining efficient unit operations.

+ Mentors others in areas such as competency, documentation, equipment use, plan of care, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), and participation in inservice education.

+ Provides direct patient care as appropriate to meet the needs of the patients and department.

+ Evaluates care given by staff.

+ Coordinates patient flow on the unit to facilitate the provision of timely and effective care.

+ Develops an effective plan of care, provides appropriate care, patient teaching and referral to other resources, evaluates and modifies the plan of care based on patient response.

Qualifications

Minimum

+ ADN Diploma or foreign equivalent

+ Two years RN experience within applicable clinical specialty

+ Active Arizona RN License

+ American Heart Association-issued BLS

+ American Heart Association-issued ACLS

+ American Heart Association-issued PALS

Preferred

+ BSN

+ Charge Nurse experience

+ Previous experience with personal computers
