Job Title: Safety Specialist

Job Description

As a Safety Specialist, you will manage emergency response systems for fire, confined space rescue, and medical responses, ensuring effective development, implementation, training, assessment, and continuous improvement of programs and policies. You will collaborate with various entities to maintain a unified emergency response brigade and foster relationships with municipal fire departments. Your role is pivotal in driving safety culture and supporting safety management systems, including safe work practices, training, assessments, and continuous improvement processes.

Responsibilities

+ Manage emergency response systems for fire, confined space rescue, and medical responses.

+ Collaborate with entities to maintain a unified emergency response brigade.

+ Build relationships with municipal fire departments.

+ Support SSEML with spill drill coordination.

+ Drive the safety culture to align with the four B's: Believe, Behave, Belong, Become, aiming for an incident-free workplace.

+ Support safety management systems such as safe work practices, training, assessments, and continuous improvement processes.

+ Manage radio communication system, gas detection equipment, and safety data sheet database.

+ Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring.

+ Ensure compliance with Maritime Transportation Security Act requirements.

+ Support the security team at the Kapolei Terminal.

+ Collaborate effectively with coworkers by sharing ideas constructively and addressing problems collaboratively.

+ Maintain commitment to high compliance standards with all policies and procedures, reporting concerns as appropriate.

+ Draft guidelines, processes, procedures, and other written documents.

+ Lead SSEM special projects across business units as assigned.

Essential Skills

+ Five or more years of progressive responsibility and experience in firefighting and confined space rescue, including high and low angle, patient packaging, and extrication.

+ Proven experience in understanding and applying safety policies and processes, preferably within an industrial environment.

+ Knowledge of OSHA standards and safe work practices.

+ Experience in developing, delivering, and supporting training programs.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint.

+ Ability to uphold strict ethical standards: integrity, objectivity, and confidentiality.

+ Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues timely.

+ Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to try new ideas.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a relevant field preferred.

+ Experience in multi-tasking work projects.

+ Ability to maintain automated and manual record-keeping systems.

+ Strong team spirit and ability to transfer it to others.

+ Ability to work independently and evaluate information for decision-making.

+ Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.

+ Strong written communication skills, including editing for spelling and grammar.

Work Environment

Work a flexible schedule from Monday to Thursday, with 10-hour shifts and negotiable start times. Be prepared to be on-call for additional support. The role involves utilizing various technologies and equipment, including radio communication systems, gas detection equipment, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $97000.00 - $129450.00/yr.
