    Duties and Responsibilities

    The research assistant will lead and supervise research projects in Dr. Megan Whitney’s lab at Loyola University Chicago. This position includes operating and managing use of the micro-CT scanning operations and data output, polarized microscopy image acquisition, paleohistological thin-sectioning, and contributing to the research goals of the lab. Previous experience in these methods is required for prospective applicants. This position also involves management of student research activity, equipment upkeep, and stocking supplies for the lab.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Experience with and/or interest in vertebrate paleontology, micro-CT scanning, paleohistology

    + The ability to work with diverse groups and individuals, and enthusiasm for connecting with people from a variety of backgrounds

    + Strong written and oral communication and organizational skills

    + Ability to work independently and as a team player

    Work Environment:

    + This position will be based at Loyola University Chicago, Lakeshore Campus, Quinlan Life Science Building. It will also include some days in the field to support litter collection and to participate in public education and outreach. Field work involves working outdoors in a variety of natural areas and weather conditions.

     

    Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

     

    Bachelor’s degree in related field and one to two years of related experience.
